Connie Jean Bauerle

Connie Jean (Cressman) Bauerle passed away February 24, 2018 at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, Almond and Dorothy Cressman and her brother, Richard Cressman. She is survived by her husband of 59+ years, Russel; their three children, Ronald Bauerle, Laura (Otha) Weaver, Paul (Mary) Bauerle; sister, Nancy (Gerald) Myers; sister-in-law, Karen Cressman; grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew and Joshua Bauerle, Kira and Deidra Weaver; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Robert) Fink, Roberta Kelley, Rosalyn (Ted) Culver; and many nieces and nephews.

Connie attended Rodney B. Wilson High School and also graduated from Lansing Business University where she was a member of Alpha Iota International Business Sorority. She also graduated from Lansing Community College. Connie was retired from secretarial work. Connie was proud to be a farmer’s daughter and the wife of an engineer and farmer. They were honored to have their farm become a centennial farm during their lifetime. Connie was a past member of Olive Grange #358, past member of 4-H, member of the 4-H Service Club, a 4-H Club leader, and a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau. She was a member of Redeemer United Methodist Church in DeWitt and past president of their United Methodist Women’s Society. Connie was very creative, enjoying sewing, scrapbooking, and gardening, and was a member of the Mint Country Garden Club. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed making friends and attending their social events. Connie was also a member of the class of 1954 group, which met monthly and planned events for their class. Connie’s proudest accomplishment was raising 3 children who all became engineers.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday March 3 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington St., DeWitt. Interment will follow at DeWitt Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Thursday March 1 from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Connie may be made to Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Rd., DeWitt, MI 48820 and Alzheimer’s Association, Capital Area Regional Office, 2111 University Park Dr., Okemos, MI 48864. A special thanks to the staffs of Prestige Pines and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care of Connie.


Genevieve C. Simon

Genevieve Catherine Simon passed away peacefully at Rosewood AFC in DeWitt on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born in Westphalia on June 17, 1926 to John and Alvina (Arens) Martin. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. On June 25, 1947, she married Clarence P. Simon and they shared 67 years together. Clarence and Gen were long time co-owners and operators of Simon’s Restaurant. Genevieve later was a real estate agent and then worked at and retired from Clinton Memorial Hospital. Gen always had a passion for cooking and baking for our many family gatherings. Gen and Clarence loved to travel! They took countless road trips over the years; Clarence drove, and Gen was his navigator.

Surviving are her children, Carol (Steve) Harry, Gene (Nita) Simon, Marilyn (Ray) Hintz, Ellen (Walt) Wheeler. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Pauline George, Alice (Jim) Becker, Catherine (Clair) Thelen, Jack Martin and sisters-in-law, Adelene Martin, Bernadine Martin, Frances Thelen, Joan Simon, Regina Simon, and Dolores Schueller and her very special friend and caregiver Sharon Weber. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 2014, infant children Gary, Janet, and Janice; sister, Eileen Schafer; brothers, Robert, Clifford, and Dale; sisters-in-law, Josephine Simon, Dorothy Bradley, Marie Martin; brothers-in-law, Bernard Schafer, Ronald Simon, Leon Simon, Bernard Simon, Edward Simon, Philip Simon, Larry Motz, Joe Thelen and Marion Bradley. Our family would like to express many thanks to the owners and staff at Rosewood AFC.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. Interment will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.


Priscilla B. Gove

Priscilla B. Gove died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the age of 76. She was born March 2, 1941 in Belding, MI the daughter of William and Edith (Nagy) Lockwood. She attended First Congregational Church in St. Johns and in her younger years was an active 4-H leader. Priscilla enjoyed spending time at her camper up north, shopping and having breakfast at McDonalds and Burger King. She had a love for travel and enjoyed taking many cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean. Priscilla loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and at one time had a cottage business tying fly fishing lures; she even taught her children how to tie lures. During her working career she worked in banking and was branch manager for several different banks. On October 20, 1962 she married Ralph Gove and he survives her.

Also surviving are three sons, Mark (Dawn), Mat (Pam) and Mike (Margie) all of St. Johns; grandchildren, Kristy, Kate, Nic, Cameron, Trevore (Marissa), Wyatt, Noalyn, Cassie (Jason), Alex and Zach; two great grandchildren, Rainee and Vivian; special friends, Sam, Bret, Elsie and Jessica; a brother, David (Sandy) Lockwood of DeWitt and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Interment will follow at Lowe Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clinton County 4-H.


Dahl Patrick DeBoer

Dahl Patrick DeBoer, 86, of St. Johns, MI passed peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2018. He was born November 2, 1931 to Ruth and Mark DeBoer at Gaylord Hospital in Gaylord, MI. Dahl graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns where he played football and was a member of the 1949 and 1950 undefeated teams and as a result was inducted into the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame and later into the St. Johns Sports Hall of Fame.

After high school he worked sailing the Great Lakes and later became a Merchant Marine Seaman traveling overseas. Returning to Michigan he went into business with his father to form Mark DeBoer & Sons Wholesale Beef Company. Later as a businessman he owned /operated the Dutch House of Beef and Flying Dutchman during his career as a restaurateur. Becoming a pilot and flying was Dahl’s favorite hobby, but sports and hunting was also in the mix. He enjoyed his comrades in volunteering at the Edwin T. Stiles American Legion Post #153 and the Clinton-Gratiot Voiture 868 of the 40 et 8, along with participating in the Military Honor Guard. His kindness, humor and presence will truly be missed.

In 1954 he married his wife of 63 years, Verena Thelen in Fowler, MI and she survives him. They raised together four children, Mark DeBoer, Ruth (Alan) Kaufman, Diane Galbavi,and Dale (Amanda) DeBoer; six grandchildren, Kenneth Galbavi, Alexander Loji, Timothy Galbavi, Chelsea Loji, Liam DeBoer and Leo DeBoer; one great grandchild, Cadence Galbavi; a niece and nephew, Robbin and Patrick. He was preceded in death by and infant sister, Alice Kay DeBoer and a brother Dirk.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. Interment will take place at 3:30 PM at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, March 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Johns First United Methodist Church 200 E.
