The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) issued an Emergency Order under the Public Health Code to update COVID safety requirements for Michiganders.<\/p>\n

You might feel healthy, but the reality is this: about 40% of people who have COVID-19 may be asymptomatic. That means almost one out of every two people could be infected. They might not know it until it\u2019s too late. So Mask Up Michigan!<\/p>\n

Tri-County Office on Aging is offering free virtual workshops for individuals with chronic pain and diabetes. You will learn tools and techniques to better manage your condition and improve quality of life. Non-Zoom option also available.<\/p>\n

Chronic Pain PATH: Thursdays, January 21 – February 25 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m.
\nDiabetes PATH: Tuesdays, January 19 – February 23 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

GreenStone Farm Credit Services Provides $40,000 in Scholarships<\/strong><\/p>\n

To continue supporting youth education in agriculture and ensure future generations have the knowledge necessary to be successful, GreenStone Farm Credit Services is awarding up to $40,000 in scholarships to incoming college freshmen pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.<\/p>\n

Over the past decade, GreenStone has presented nearly $350,000 of financial assistance to agriculture\u2019s next generation of leaders through the cooperative\u2019s scholarship program. Incoming college freshman attending a four-year college program can earn a $2,000 scholarship, while $1,000 awards will go to selected students attending a two-year college program. Applications are now being accepted and must be received by February 28, 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe success of the next generation of agricultural leaders depends on the educational opportunities of youth today,\u201d says Dave Armstrong, GreenStone President and CEO. \u201cThat\u2019s why GreenStone is committed to providing financial support to students through our scholarship program to help cultivate future industry leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scholarship applicants must reside within GreenStone\u2019s territory, which includes Michigan and select counties in northeastern Wisconsin; must be a full-time high school graduating senior; have at least a 3.0 grade point average; and plan to study an agriculture-related field. In addition, applicants should demonstrate participation and leadership in school, community and agricultural activities. Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2021.<\/p>\n

Michigan Humanities Grants and Programs Virtual Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n

From 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, January 28 join Michigan Humanities staff members for a virtual workshop highlighting current and upcoming opportunities for funding and program partnerships.<\/p>\n

– The workshop is free, open to all, and will take place via Zoom. Pre-registration is required and a meeting link will be shared following your registration.<\/p>\n

The workshop will be recorded and shared with all who registered, as well as posted on the MH website.<\/p>\n

Girl Scout Cookie Season is here <\/strong><\/p>\n

On Tuesday Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) kicked off the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie season nationally during a challenging time when many Girl Scouts are selling in creative, socially distant, and contact-free ways to keep themselves and their customers safe. Even in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, girls are adapting their sales methods to share the joy of Girl Scout Cookies through the largest girl-led entrepreneurship program\u2014including taking contact-free pickup and delivery orders through a new national collaboration with Grubhub.<\/p>\n

Thinking outside of the cookie box, girls are also using Digital Cookie, which is a contactless web based platform, where customers can order Girl Scout Cookies online from local Girl Scouts. Through Digital Cookie, individual Girl Scouts create unique online store-fronts where customers can shop and place cookie orders for fan favorites like Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoils, and more. Shipping is available or customers can have their local Girl Scout deliver the cookies.<\/p>\n

The platform also has on option to donate cookies to local Hometown Heroes. Last season, thanks to generous donations, GSHOM donated over 17,000 cookie packages and brought joy to front line heroes in hospitals, nursing homes, and COVID-19 testing centers, with hopes to exceed that number this year.<\/p>\n

Isabella Nadgauda, a Girl Scout from local Troop #50336, said, \u201cI think Digital Cookie is very good. I like that family can buy cookies from me that live outside of MI. My Great Aunt from New York got to support me and that made me very happy!\u201d Troop leader, Deanna Nadgauda said, \u201cI personally love Digital Cookie. It\u2019s so easy and convenient for customers to place their orders and pay and we could just drop cookies off with zero contact! It\u2019s super easy to set-up, share with family and friends! Great tool to have!\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Digital cookie, customers can also buy Girl Scout Cookies in person from local troops. With safety precautions in place, some troops are holding \u201cDrive-Through Cookie Booths\u201d around town, where customers can order and pick up their favorite Girl Scout cookies, without leaving their vehicles.<\/p>\n

Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls as young as five years old are continuing to embrace their entrepreneurial spirits, stay connected to their communities, and have fun learning new skills. And, the proceeds from each and every purchase stay local with the troop and its council to power Girl Scouts\u2019 essential leadership programming.<\/p>\n

Briggs District Library News<\/strong><\/p>\n

Briggs District Library is currently open for in facility usage and curbside delivery on a reduced schedule.<\/p>\n

The Library is following the recommended safety guidelines which include increased cleaning procedures, quarantining all returned materials for a minimum of 96 hours, social distancing, occupancy restrictions and requiring all staff and patrons age five and over to wear a mask unless exempt for medical reasons.<\/p>\n

The Library’s current operating hours are:<\/p>\n
