CMH now offering virtual Mental Health First Aid<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties has announced that after much anticipation, they are now offering virtual Mental Health First Aid to the community.<\/p>\n

This internationally recognized training increases mental health literacy and teaches participants to help someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.<\/p>\n

The Knights of Columbus fish fries are scheduled for March 12, 19 and 26.<\/p>\n

No advance orders will be accepted, and dinners will be drive thru only. One line only from North Drive.<\/p>\n

Take out items are 1) Fried fish with steak fries, 2) Baked fish with Bake Potatoes. Sides include Green Beans, Coleslaw, Applesauce and Dinner Roll.<\/p>\n

Waste Management wants to help with tire disposal<\/strong><\/p>\n

When your tires reach the end of their life, be sure they get recycled. Tires need to be recycled because they don’t biodegrade and cause endless problems to the environment. Every year millions of tires are recycled and transformed into other materials such as; playground turf, asphalt for roads, garden mulch, shoe products and so much more! If you have tires that you need to get rid of, check out the bullet points below. Call or check the websites directly for any questions.<\/p>\n

If you have 50 or more tires on your site the Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy has put together a list of registered commercial scrap tire haulers in the state.<\/p>\n

Another way to get rid of tires is to check out he waste wizard search tool on our website. It will list local auto shops that will accept tires for disposal. Please remember that all locations will charge a small fee for disposal ranging from 1-5$ per tire.<\/p>\n

GreenStone Commits $40,000 in Grants<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The future of the agriculture industry is largely dependent on the next generation of leaders and their ability to overcome the challenges of today\u2019s market. To provide this pivotal cohort of diverse farmers with the educational opportunities and support necessary for success, for the fourth year GreenStone is again committing up to $40,000 to young, beginning and small farmers through the cooperative\u2019s 2021 Grow Forward Grant program.<\/p>\n

Each year, the grant program provides financial support to offset the cost of educational opportunities. Individuals who qualify as a young, beginning or small farmers can use grant dollars toward farm or business consultations, educational courses and seminars, and resource-focused events or conferences. The program also allows individuals to use grant dollars toward their first GreenStone tax and accounting service \u2013 setting their farm\u2019s accounting and recording-keeping up for success.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreenStone\u2019s grant program supports producers interested in gaining more education to prepare themselves to successfully compete in today\u2019s highly competitive global marketplace,\u201d said Dave Armstrong, GreenStone President and CEO. \u201cYoung, beginning and small farmers are vital to the economic health of agriculture and these grants help remove the financial barrier so they can focus on expanding their industry knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since launching the Grow Forward Grant program in 2018, individuals have taken advantage of the opportunities this grant provides by participating in a variety of programs. From forestry management, on-farm consultations, distillation courses and even workshops to educate farmers on effectively communicating with consumers, each grant provides farmers a chance to gain valuable knowledge and personal growth.<\/p>\n

Again in 2021, GreenStone will be offering up to $40,000 through the Grow Forward Grant program to provide educational and learning opportunities to farmers. To qualify for up to $1,000, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, or farming for less than 10 years, or sustain annual gross sales from agricultural production of less than $250,000, in addition to residing in GreenStone\u2019s territory. Both GreenStone members and non-members that qualify are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n

National Groundwater Awareness Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

Any resource taken for granted is a resource at risk of being lost. That is why the Michigan Ground Water Association, The Groundwater Foundation, and the National Ground Water Association will be joining hundreds of organizations across the country in celebrating National Groundwater Awareness Week, March 7-13. National Groundwater Awareness Week, now in its 22nd year, is an annual week of awareness, education, and advocacy focusing on one of Michigan\u2019s and the nation\u2019s most precious resources.<\/p>\n

Michigan depends on groundwater for nearly 20% of its public water. It also provides over 2.5 million private water wells in the state with fresh and clean water every day. The United States uses 80.3 billion gallons per day of fresh
\ngroundwater for public supply, private supply, irrigation, livestock, manufacturing, mining, thermoelectric power, and other purposes.<\/p>\n

Groundwater is undeniably crucial to our society and is a resource that must be advocated for and protected by our citizens. This is why during National Groundwater Awareness Week we are providing tools for the public to become better educated on groundwater issues and opportunities to protect groundwater in their own backyard!<\/p>\n
