Free Breakfast and Lunch this summer<\/strong><\/p>\n

St. Johns Public Schools is offering free food for all kids this summer. They are offering this through the federal program called “Meet Up and Eat Up.”<\/p>\n

Do you know what the Community Resource Volunteers in St. Johns is all about and what we do? No? Then you should know it is all about you and for you.<\/p>\n

Visit the facility at 304 Brush Street here in St. Johns on Tuesday night, June 26th anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and see it all. CRV will be showing off their new facility, talking about programs they currently have, where they are going and how you and your family can be involved. No matter your age, there are things for you.<\/p>\n

CRV would like to get to know you and show you what they have to offer and how you can benefit from the services and resources. If you have known about CRV in the past, they have recently expanded their offices and they would like to show it all to you.<\/p>\n

Community Christian to host VBS<\/strong> – June 25-28<\/p>\n

Community Christian Church located at 400 E. State Street in St. Johns is hosting a free 4-day Vacation Bible School event at the church Monday through Thursday, June 25-28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. No need to pre-register, simply register when you show up.<\/p>\n

The week will end with lots of fun as kids get to dunk their favorite VBS staff in the dunk tank. For more details call the church at (989) 224-6421.<\/p>\n

VBS is for children 31\/2 years who are potty trained, through graduating 5th graders this year.<\/p>\n

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at<\/p>\n

– Carson City Linden Apartments, 320 E. Linden St., Carson City, Thursday, June 28 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m, and at<\/p>\n

Briggs District Library News<\/strong><\/p>\n

S.A.M. in the Summer<\/em> – Fun, hands-on activities in Science, Art, and Math for children in grades 1-6. Art #2: Grades 4-6, Wednesday, 6\/27, 3-4pm. Science #1: Grades 1-3, Wednesday, 7\/11, 3-4pm. Science #2: Grades 4-6, Wednesday, 7\/18, 3-4pm. Math #1: Grades 4-6, Wednesday, 7\/25, 3-4pm. Math #2: Grades 1-3, 8\/1, 3-4pm. Registration for all S.A.M. programs is required and is open.<\/p>\n

Tales to Tails<\/em> – Free Reading Program with 15 minute sessions for children ages 6-12 to practice reading aloud to Ruger, a certified therapy dog. Summer Schedule: 2nd Thursdays, 7\/12 and 8\/9 from 6:30-7:15. Extra sessions will be considered if time slots fill up. This program encourages confidence and reading skills over the summer in a relaxing environment. Registration is required and is open.<\/p>\n

Family Movie Fridays<\/em> – We will be once again showing free movies for the family to enjoy. Movies will run each Friday, June 8 – July 27 (no showing on July 6), and all shows begin at 2:30p.m. Registration, and a complete list of all the movies being shown this summer, are now available on our website.<\/p>\n

Chapter Chatter<\/em> – “Get Your Game On @ the Library” Staff will select and share over the course of 4 Mondays a beginning chapter book with children ages 6-8. After sharing a chapter or two each week we will\u2026Let The Games Begin! There will be an assortment of interactive games that we will play individually and as teams. There will be refreshments each week as well. The programs are on Monday evenings, August 6 – August 27, 7 – 7:45 pm. Registration is required and begins on Monday, July 9th.<\/p>\n

Summer Reading Finale!<\/em> “Caribbean Steel Drums” are coming to the Library on Tuesday, July 17th, 7-8 pm. Mark your calendars for this program where professional musicians will be drumming, singing, dancing & interacting with the audience while exploring Africa and Caribbean contributions to the world of music. No registration is required for this FREE family program.<\/p>\n

Toddler Storytime<\/em> – Children ages 2-3 (with a participating adult) are invited to join us on Wednesday mornings at 10:30-11:00 from August 1st to August 22nd. We will be taking the time to learn all that we can about Goodnight Moon. The program will include stories, music, movement and crafts. Registration is required and will be begin Tuesday, July 3rd.<\/p>\n

Garden Buddies<\/em>– Grow with us in the Rae Johnson’s Children’s Garden, where will learn about what is takes to grow the food we love to eat. Children ages 7-12 are invited to join us for our second session of Garden Buddies on Tuesday evenings starting July 31st and going through August 21st. We will be meeting behind the library for this program from 5-6:30pm. Registration is required is will be open Tuesday, July 3rd.<\/p>\n

Tween Makerspace<\/em> – Tweens ages 9-12 can join us on Tuesday, July 10 at 6:30p.m. for some hands-on fun, when we will design and create roller coasters using everyday household objects. Registration for this free program is required, and is now available.<\/p>\n

Library Closure<\/em> – The library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The book drop will be open for returns during the closure.<\/p>\n

Leonard announces July office hours<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaker of the House Tom Leonard, R-DeWitt, will host office hours to meet with local residents and discuss their concerns about state government. Speaker Leonard represents Michigan\u2019s 93rd District.<\/p>\n

The coffee hour will take place on Friday, July 13, 8:00 a.m. \u2013 9:30 a.m. at Big Boy, 1408 Old U.S. 27, St. Johns<\/p>\n

Local residents are encouraged to bring comments, questions and concerns about local government and anything else happening in the local community.
