The mission statement of the Clinton County Historical Museum is to maintain the complex related to and typical of the Clinton County history, to provide education, and encourage community involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Any skills and time you have that would fit the mission like computer skills, publicity, community awareness, document sorting and cataloging, textile preservation, displays, presentations, cleaning, outside and inside maintenance, docent duty would be greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>Please contact <a href=\"mailto:pgsmuseum@gmail.com \"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">pgsmuseum@gmail.com<\/span><\/a> or call 989-292-9096.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/cchistoricalmuseum.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">Clinton County Historical Museum<\/span><\/a> is located at 106 Maple in St. Johns and plans on reopening for the Mint Festival, August 14 and 15 from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The remaining year&#8217;s schedule is yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>The Archives is the keeper of documents and photos that represent the history and residents of Clinton County.<\/p>\n<p>If you have free time and an interest in keeping history available and accessible, please contact Julie Peters at 989-501-0599 or <a href=\"mailto:petersj@msu.edu\"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">petersj@msu.edu<\/span><\/a>. It will be listed on flyers that will be available to pick up on the festival grounds, and each sale will receive 25 flyers to hand out to shoppers that list all the sales.<\/p>\n<p>The Garage Sale application is available to print off at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clintoncountychamber.org\/mint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">www.clintoncountychamber.org\/mint<\/span><\/a>, or you can call 989-224-7248 or email <a href=\"mailto:ccchamber@4wbi.net\"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">ccchamber@4wbi.net<\/span><\/a> the Chamber for a copy. All applications are due back to the Chamber office by Friday, July 23, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>******<\/p>\n<p>The St. Johns Mint Festival parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 14 starting at 10 a.m. at Oakview Elementary School.<\/p>\n<p>******<\/p>\n<p><em>Cornhole Tournaments at the Mint Festival<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Cornhole is coming to the Mint Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Events include the following:<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, August 14:<br \/>\n&#8211; Social singles ($10) and Competitive Singles ($20). Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Bags fly at 10:00 a.m.<br \/>\n&#8211; Social Doubles ($20) and Competitive Doubles ($40). Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. Bags fly at Noon or slightly later if singles are still going on.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, August 15:<br \/>\n&#8211; 8 game switcholio with a new partner each game ($10). All registrations will take place onsite.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Saginaw Irish Band performs at the Concert in the Park July 21<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Multiple Irish Music Award Nominees Siusan O&#8217;Rourke and Zig Zeitler Bouzouki will lead the Irish\/Celtic band, Monday&#8217;s Supper in the featured Concert in the Park program on Wednesday, July 21.<\/p>\n<p>This special concert will start at 7:00 p.m. in the William E. Tennant Performance Shell in the beautiful St. Johns City Park. It will feature a nice mix of both Traditional and Original Irish Ballads, bringing many wonderful Irish stories and legends to life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Intimate, Charming, Funny and Seriously Irish is the theme for the evening,&#8221; explains Bill Tennant, concert coordinator. &#8220;You&#8217;ll love this group! Their beautiful vocals and mix of instruments will have you booking a flight to Dublin the next day. And it will be good to have one of our own, Nellie Schrantz, back in town and performing. She is a 2004 St. Johns High School graduate &#8211; an excellent violinist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Members of this Saginaw group include Siusan on vocals and guitar, Zig on the mandolins, Kat Morris on vocals, whistles, bodhran and guitar, with Nellie playing fiddle. Monday&#8217;s Supper will have the table set with a nice variety of dishes, bringing the Tastiest Irish Music to your palate.<\/p>\n<p>The concert is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the City of St. Johns. It is open to the public free of charge &#8211; donations are graciously accepted.<\/p>\n<p>All concerts are presented rain or shine. The Lion&#8217;s Club food trailer will be available this year. Social distancing and safety precautions are strongly encouraged. The hour-long concert will start at 12 noon and will be held in the Rotary Park Pavilion by the CIS Trail and Railroad Depot.<\/p>\n<p>Elden is a seasoned jazz improviser, who is just as comfortable playing classical, world, and music of the Beatles. He also evokes traces of Latin, American roots, flamenco, and Indian music, which is underpinned by modern swing. He brings to his audiences across the country, music that is recognizably, uniquely exceptional.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Elden possesses guitar techniques that are the envy of many of the top players around the country,&#8221; says Bill Tennant, concert coordinator. &#8220;He is that good! He stretches the imagination and brings the extraordinary to every performance. It&#8217;s great to have him here in St Johns this summer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although Michigan claims him as their own, Elden is originally from Vermont. He carries a degree in Contemporary Improvisation from Boston&#8217;s prestigious New England Conservatory of Music. In 2008 he was honored with a full scholarship, coupled with a teaching assistant position at Michigan State University with Rodney Whitaker, earning a graduate degree in Ethnomusicology in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>This amazing concert is being presented by the Clinton County Arts Council and is made possible by a grant from the St Johns Area Community Fund using gifts received from The Forest and Doris Swatman Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The concert is open to the public free of charge and will be held rain or shine. Some picnic tables are available for the lunchtime concert, but it&#8217;s advisable to bring your favorite lawn chair. Webb Road, DeWitt.<\/p>\n<p>The ride, which regularly attracts cyclists of all ages, gives riders a choice of routes between 20, 35, 50 and 75 miles and everywhere in between, all in one day.<\/p>\n<p>The $35 entry fee includes access to up to five rest stops and lunch.<\/p>\n<p>The event is a major annual fundraiser for Habitat. All proceeds further the mission of providing safe, decent and affordable housing to people in need through its housebuilding, critical home repair and wheelchair ramp programs.
