Tennant Performance Shell.<\/p>\n<p>The fireworks will kick off at dusk. Bring your lawn chairs for a fun filled evening.<\/p>\n<p>This spectacular event is sponsored by the St. Johns Rotary Club.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>July 4th Concert in the Park <\/strong>&#8211; Life Support Band and fireworks<\/p>\n<p>Music and a fantastic fireworks display &#8211; what better way is there to celebrate the Fourth of July? You can join in the fun July 4 at the St. Johns City Park when Life Support Band plays at the weekly Concert in the Park Summer Music Series. Music begins at 7 p.m. and fireworks start at dusk; no admission.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/LifeSupport.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1345\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Life Support has been &#8220;saving&#8221; area music goers for a number of years, delivering rock, jazz, Blues and whatever else local audiences want to hear. Founding members, Nikki Zeeb Fowler and Ricky Nalett, have been together almost 20 years. Nikki is a rare vocal talent capable of singing virtually anything and knows how to entertain the crowds. Ricky is an extraordinary keyboardist who is the musical backbone of the band.<\/p>\n<p>A pair of new members complete the talented foursome: Keith Minaya on guitar and vocals and Ethan \u201cChef\u201d\u00a0Phoenix\u00a0on drums and vocals. Keith, a highly talented and versatile player, is as comfortable playing jazz as he is playing rock. His dynamic vocals and incredible guitar soloing are on par with anyone. Chef is simply one of the most talented drummers you will hear.\u00a0With his rock solid tempos and crystal clear high vocal range, he can sing anything from Ed Sheeran, Stevie Wonder, to Justin Timberlake.<\/p>\n<p>As it has in the past, the St. Johns Rotary Club is sponsoring the &#8220;huge&#8221; fireworks display. Viewing is available at the St. Johns City Park and St. Johns High School, located adjacent to the City Park area. There is no admission charge to the fireworks, but raffle tickets will be available for sale; cash prizes.<\/p>\n<p>Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the City of St. Johns with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Concerts are held each Wednesday evening; rain or shine. The St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club staff a concession stand offering light refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>For detailed information on the Concert in the Park series visit the CCAC web site, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clintoncountyarts.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">http:\/\/www.clintoncountyarts.org\/<\/font><\/a> and check out the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell page on Facebook.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mint Festival applications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 34th Annual St. Johns Mint Festival is just around the corner, which means applications to participate in weekend events are coming due. All applications are accessible on the Mint Festival webpage at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clintoncountychamber.org\/mint\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">www.clintoncountychamber.org\/mint<\/font><\/a>. Some of the weekend events include:<\/p>\n<p><em>Parade<\/em>: the parade will be on Sat, August 11 at 10 am. Applications to participate are due by July 5. All applications received after that date will be subject to a $10 late fee.<\/p>\n<p><em>Vendor Booths<\/em>: all vendor booths are available on a first come, first served basis. Spaces remain in all areas, but are filing fast. Vendor booths are open all hours of the festival which are Fri: 2-8 p.m.; Sat: 10 am-8 p.m. and Sun: 10 am \u2013 5 p.m..<\/p>\n<p><em>SideWalk Chalk Art Competition<\/em>: Artwork must be completed by teams or individuals on Fri and Sat, August 10 and 11 and then will be judged Sunday, August 12. Entry forms must be submitted onsite.<\/p>\n<p><em>Quilt Show<\/em>: if you have a family heirloom, or something you made last week that you would like to display, then get your application in today. Quilts must be brought up to the festival grounds Thu, August 9 between 3-6 p.m. and must remain on display all hours of the festival. The theme for this year\u2019s quilt contest is \u201cRock and Roll\u201d. Quilt entry applications are due August 1.<\/p>\n<p><em>Photo Contest<\/em>: Weather you are an aspiring photographer or just someone that fools around with the camera, your photos are welcome. All entries will be on display in Smith Hall throughout the weekend for attendee judging. Photos are due at the Chamber office by Fri, August 3.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bocce Ball<\/em>: Bocce Ball will be played Saturday afternoon (and Sunday if needed) on the County Fairgrounds. 2-person teams will compete. The fee to participate is only $10.<\/p>\n<p><em>Garage Sale<\/em>: If you would like the Mint Festival to help promote your garage sale that you will be holding during the Mint Festival weekend, then register your address with the Chamber by Fri, July 17. The fee is only $10 which gets you on flyers provided to all the garage sale participants, and on flyers passed out on the festival grounds.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about any Mint Festival events, please call the Chamber of Commerce at 989-224-7248.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Creative Placemaking coming to St. Johns<\/strong> &#8211; September 15<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/placemaking2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"166\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1347\" \/>With support from the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, the Clinton County Arts Council is hosting the first-ever \u201cArt of Dining\u201d; a fundraiser to bring the arts to St. Johns.<\/p>\n<p>Art of Dining is a fine dining experience that showcases our community\u2019s public spaces and outdoor assets while featuring work from local artists. The event will happen on September 15, 2018 and is projected to raise an estimated $10,000. Funds raised from the event will go toward supporting artists to bring a variety of artistic creations to the area, including several large-scale murals for downtown buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Local businesses and building owners have already dedicated spaces for the painted murals. They recognize the value of the arts and placemaking, and know they are essential to enhance quality of life and revitalize buildings and our city.<\/p>\n<p><em>What is Creative Placemaking and Why Should You Care?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/placemaking1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1348\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Creative placemaking is used by communities to engage residents, enhance public spaces, and contribute to healthy\u00a0communities. It is a strategy to improve community well-being and prosperity while also fostering conditions for cities to define, draw attention to, and distinguish themselves on a global scale.<\/p>\n<p>The success of creative placemaking is dependent upon public, private, and nonprofit organizations collaborating with artists and citizen groups to create vibrant and visually appealing public spaces. The Clinton County Arts Council is a proud advocate of placemaking. They have witnessed the incredible impact it has had on communities and are taking action.<\/p>\n<p>When a community comes together, creative placemaking can be astounding. Around the world, combined energies and interests have used it to transform communities and inspire positive investment and change.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anyone interested in supporting the arts and building a vibrant community is welcome to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clintoncountyarts.org\/donate\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">www.clintoncountyarts.org\/donate<\/font><\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Pauli Ford raises funds for National Night Out<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/sjpd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"360\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1349\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was great to have the opportunity to help raise funds for the National Night Out event with Pauli Ford and our Saint Johns Police and Fire Department. Pauli raised over $1,000.00 with their recent fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all that participated and showed your support for such a great group of Police and Firefighters.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The Voice for Clinton County&#8217;s Children schedules housewarming<\/strong> &#8211; September 14<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/voice.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You are invited to a Housewarming to celebrate te permanent home of The Voice for Clinton County&#8217;s Children on Friday, September 14 from 5 p.m. &#8211; 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the Clinton County Arts Event, Arts Night Out Chalk it Up! you will to see the beautiful office full of amazing murals like that pictured here.
