Magin-Kerr engagement announced<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rhiannon K. Magin and Richard C. Kerr III plan to be wed on September 8, 2018 in Leland, MI.<\/p>\n

Rhiannon K. Maginis the daughter of Ron and Reggie Magin of Richland, MI and the granddaughter of Darvin V. Beaufore and the late Hila (Doty) Beaufore, both formerly of St. Johns, MI. She is a 2007 Gull Lake High School, 2010 Wayne State University graduate. Bachelor and Master degree in Accounting and she is a C.P.A. Rhiannon is employed as a Financial Analyst with Mid-Mark in Traverse City.<\/p>\n

The groom is the son of the late Richard C. Kerr, Jr and Janet Stowe of Suttons Bay, MI. He is a 2003 Suttons Bay Graduate and he is employed as a custom Tile and Floor Contractor for Tile Tech in Traverse City, MI.<\/p>\n

Following a delayed trip to the Hawaiian Islands, the couple plans to reside in Cedar, MI.<\/p>\n

LAFCU opens applications for $3,000 scholarship essay contest<\/strong><\/p>\n

LAFCU is accepting applications for the 2018 Women Helping Educate Every Lady (W.H.E.E.L.) scholarship essay contest. It is for women who are pursuing education needed to enter or re-enter the workforce or to advance in their careers.<\/p>\n

Each of three winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Lansing Community College (LCC) 2018 fall semester.<\/p>\n

The entry deadline is Saturday, July 21. Applications are available online at www.lafcu.com\/resources\/scholarships.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen often put their education and careers on hold due to family obligations,\u201d said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer. \u201cTheir success in the workplace is important to achieving their personal goals, and vital for a diverse workforce and a healthy economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says that a W.H.E.E.L. scholarship is ideal for the woman who needs a few classes to complete a degree or to become licensed or certified for a new occupation.<\/p>\n

Winners will be determined by their one-page essay about their new career choice or advancement goal, inspiration for pursuing this new goal, and why they want to pursue it now.<\/p>\n

Applicants do not need to be LAFCU members, but they must live, work or attend church or school in Michigan, which is LAFCU\u2019s geographical service area.<\/p>\n

Soup kitchen makes stops in area next week<\/strong><\/p>\n

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at<\/p>\n

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, July 17 and<\/p>\n

– First Baptist Church\/Beacon of Hope (northwest parking lot), 512 S. US 27, St. Johns from 12-1:30 pm, Thursday, July 19 and at<\/p>\n

– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19.<\/p>\n

Elzinga completes degree at Wichita State University<\/strong><\/p>\n

David C Elzinga of Saint Johns was one of more than 1,900 students who completed degrees at Wichita State University in spring 2018.<\/p>\n

Elzinga graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.<\/p>\n
