He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  On July 11, 2005 John married Kimberly Ann Morse in Ionia, MI.<\/p>\n<p>John enjoyed being a hippie, fishing and smoking weed. He was very proud of his Native American heritage.  He was known for his stubbornness. John loved his family and his daily hugs from his grandkids.<\/p>\n<p>John is survived by his wife Kim Morse; 5 daughters: Danielle (Jon) Isenhower of Ovid, MI; Angela (Ron) Larsen of Lansing, MI; Crystal (Jeff) Bickley of Laingsburg, MI; Jodie Hoogewind of FL, and Nora Hoogewind of Battle Creek, MI; son Robert Hoogewind of the U.P., grandchildren: McKenzie, Myron, Myles, Sean, Jace, Liam, Isaiah, Ethan, Autumn, Elijah, Bella, and many more; sister Judy (Dale) Lester, brother Terry Hoogewind and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.<\/p>\n<p>The family is being served by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcgeehanfh.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">McGeehan Funeral Home<\/font><\/a>, Keck-Coleman Chapel &#8211; Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, Michigan.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Gladys M. Rice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/rice_gladys.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15699\" \/>Gladys M. Rice, age 84, of Maple Rapids, MI, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, at her home.<\/p>\n<p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating.  Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI at a later date.  Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes- Osgood Chapel, St. Johns Chapel, MI.  A Vigil service will be held 7:30 P.M Friday at the funeral home.<\/p>\n<p>Gladys was born in Fowler, Michigan on August 28, 1937, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Pohl) Witgen.  Gladys married Donald C. &#8220;Donnie&#8221; Rice, the love of her life, on August 13, 1955 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, who she met as a sophomore in High School.  They were blessed with 62 years of marriage prior to his passing on February 4, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Gladys was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and spent 30 years as a Materials Manager, 14 years at Clinton Memorial Hospital and 16 years at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord.  She lived most of her life in Clinton County, but lived and worked in the Gaylord area for 16 years.  After retirement at age 70, Gladys and her husband moved back to Clinton County which they considered home.<\/p>\n<p>She had great fun in her life with 6 years of basketball, 40 years of competitive trap and skeet shooting throughout Michigan and Ohio.  She loved her job of 30 years as materials manager in two hospitals and her volunteer work as guild president and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, choir member, money counter, usher and a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul store.<\/p>\n<p>She is survived by son Michael and Pam Rice of St. Johns, MI; daughter Cheryl and Gary Onstad of Hartland, MI; grandchildren: Kassi Rice, Eric Onstad, and Chelsea Onstad; sisters: Agatha Mankey and Joan Epkey; and brothers-in-law: Louis Powell and Robert Armbrustmacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, sisters:  Evelyn Wieber, Marie Powell and Alma Armbrustmacher; one brother Marvin Witgen, sisters-in-law: Ruth Witgen and Judith Rademacher Carter; and brothers-in-law: Claude Wieber, Bernard Mankey, Richard Schaefer, Vern Pung and Louis Epkey.<\/p>\n<p>Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI 48879. The family is being served by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">Smith Family Funeral Homes<\/font><\/a> &#8211; Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, Michigan.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Jeremy Francis Marchek<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/marchek_jeremy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15696\" \/>Jeremy Francis Marchek, age 42 and a resident of St. Johns, Michigan, died in a tragic accident on April 28, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy was born in Lansing, Michigan, on May 17, 1979, the son of Kevin and Diana Ridge Marchek. He grew up in Dixon, Illinois where he attended Dixon High School. In 2005 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, beginning a career in which Staff Sergeant Marchek has served tours in Iraq, Kuwait, and Jordan. He was ever a great leader, great to his soldiers and proud follower and founder of Marchek-ism. Also in 2005 he married the love of his life, Amy King, in St. Johns where they made their home and raised their sons, Josh and Ayden.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy&#8217;s other home was in the gym, and in the boxing ring. He was a Michigan Golden Gloves champion and a member of the Clinton Co. Boxing Club, where he was a mentor to young boxers who were encouraged by his &#8220;if I can do it, you can do it&#8221;. He loved hunting, fishing, gambling, game nights, hanging out with his friends, a glass of fine bourbon, traveling with Amy, time spent with his sons, and hiking with his dog, Ruby.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy will always be remembered as boisterous, strong-willed, opinionated, and someone who talked from his heart. He was full of life in every way, and a big personality in the lives of his family and friends and he will be sorely missed.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his beloved wife Amy, he leaves his sons, Josh and Ayden; his dog Ruby; his mother, Diana Ridge (John) of Rock Falls, IL; his father, Kevin Marchek (Sherry) of Dixon, IL; sisters, Becky and Jessica Marchek; his step-sister, Mallory (Kevin); father and mother-in-law, Jim and Kaye King; sister-in-law, Rachel Janssen (Seth); brother-in-law, Adam King (the late Jamie); nieces and nephews, Veronica, Tiarra, and Myka Marchek, Sam and Parker Janssen, Madison and Ethan King; his dear friends, Chuck and Michelle Desander and family; his Army brothers and sisters, boxing family, and many other extended family members and dear friends.<\/p>\n<p>A Memorial Gathering, Celebration, and Military Honors will be held at Chuck Desander&#8217;s Pavilion, 2571 W. Price Road, St. Johns, Michigan on Jeremy&#8217;s birthday, Tuesday, May 17.
