Superhero 5K Run, Walk, or Fly! postponed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Staffers for The Voice for Clinton County’s Children have tried very hard to bring back their annual Superhero 5K after the world has changed. They know having the event in April appears better for Superheroes for Children.<\/p>\n

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Superhero 5K scheduled for Saturday, September 17 is postponed until April, 2023.<\/p>\n

Everyone who registered will be automatically registered for April, 2023 or they may choose to have a refund. For a refund, please contact KellySchaferED@gmail.com<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Local Legion Auxiliary member named to State office<\/strong><\/p>\n

The local American Legion Auxiliary Unit #153 has announced that on June 26, 2022 Marcy Jorae was sworn into the highest office at the Department level as the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Michigan President for the 2022-23 year.<\/p>\n

Marcy is one of the members of the local Unit who is always the first in and the last out. She is always there to lend a hand, an ear and to mentor those around her. The passion she has for our veterans is noticeable in all she says and does. As a result Marcy has been very active in the Unit, District, State and National levels of our organization. Several years ago Marcy began the process at the State (Department) level to become the President one day.<\/p>\n

The American Legion Auxiliary is an organization with a rich history of serving veterans, active duty military and their families in our communities. As an organization the Auxiliary members are proud of the projects they do to support those who have fought and continue to fight for our freedoms.<\/p>\n

Here in St. Johns that is no different. St. Johns Unit #153 strives to support our veterans and community every day by maintaining their mission of \u201cService, Not Self.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you happen to see Madam President out and about in our community, stop and say hello, congratulate her on this honor, and while you are at it ask about her special project for the year. She would be more than happy to discuss 92 for 22, which is a local to the state non profit dedicated to addressing the 22 veterans a day we lose to veteran suicide.<\/p>\n

Local man arrested for kiddie porn<\/strong><\/p>\n

A St. Johns man is facing multiple charges after he was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children division with the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit.<\/p>\n

Austin Hiebert, 28, has been charged with child sexual abuse activity, accosting a minor for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.<\/p>\n

According to police the investigation started when a member of the public reported an incident which eventually led the investigation to a home in St. Johns where Hiebert lived.<\/p>\n

A search warrant was executed at the home, and digital evidence was taken, police said. Hiebert has been arraigned in 65A District Court in Clinton County.<\/p>\n

Support First Responders on September 11<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday, September 11 at 9 a.m. there will be a gathering held at the St. Johns Fire Department, 109 E. State Street in St. Johns at the First Responders mural to honor all who work to keep community members safe and healthy.<\/p>\n

Now more than ever, our first responders need to know they have the support of our community. In St. Johns people came together earlier this summer to complete a paint-by-number mural honoring local police officers, firefighters and emergency medical responders.<\/p>\n

St. Johns is turning into the mural city, and the first responder mural is a great addition<\/p>\n

Join them at the Art and Soul Gallery at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 14t for a night of spooky, painting fun and spirits. (Bring your own boos!)<\/p>\n
