Historical Society annual meeting coming up September 15<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Clinton County Historical Society’s Annual Program will be held on September 15, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. AgroLiquid, 1130 S. DeWitt Rd.<\/p>\n

This year the speaker will be Art Wainwright, a local TV and radio host. He will be sharing tales of his past experiences.<\/p>\n

You don’t need to be a member of the Historical Society to enjoy this evening with them. All are invited. Desserts and Drinks will be furnished.<\/p>\n

Deadline for Waterfowl applications is September 11<\/strong><\/p>\n

The deadline to apply for the 2022 Waterfowl Hunt at Clinton Lakes County Park is coming soon.<\/p>\n

Applications can be submitted by Sunday, September 11, 2022 at https:\/\/www.clinton-county.org\/713\/Waterfowl-Hunt<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Fall Collection Event is September 24<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Free for Fall collection event will be taking place on September 24 this year.<\/p>\n

This event will be accepting electronic waste (computer equipment, stereo, televisions, etc.) and household hazardous waste (oil based paint, medications, yard chemicals, etc.)<\/p>\n

An appointment is required to attend the event. To sign up for an appointment click here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

After creating a new account, click on the green “recycling and collection events” tab, then click on “free for fall collection” to pick an appointment time. After making your reservation you will receive an email with additional information.<\/p>\n

HDSA hosts Hope Walk\/Run September 17 <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Upper Great Lakes Region of the Huntington\u2019s Disease Society of America (HDSA) will host the Lansing Team Hope Walk\/5K Run on Saturday, September 17 at 10:00 AM at Granger Meadows Park. All proceeds support HDSA\u2019s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington\u2019s disease (HD) and their families.<\/p>\n

Team Hope is HDSA\u2019s largest national grassroots fundraising event, which takes place in over 100 cities across the U.S. and has raised more than $20 million for HD since its inception in 2007. Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and communities walk together each year to support HDSA\u2019s mission to improve the lives of people affected by HD and their families.<\/p>\n

Enroll soon for LAFCU\u2019s free personal finance course<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is still time to enroll in LAFCU\u2019s free personal finance course; deadline September. 6<\/p>\n

There\u2019s still time to enroll in LAFCU\u2019s free, comprehensive personal finance course Pathway to Financial Transformation for adults, ages 20 and over. The deadline is September 6, 2022.<\/p>\n

The 16-session, virtual course covers topics critical for financial stability and, ultimately, financial freedom. It is structured similar to a college course with assignments and quizzes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw the pandemic upend the financial lives of many,\u201d said Shelia Scott, community financial education and business development officer who leads the course.<\/p>\n

\u201cPathway to Financial Transformation accentuates hope. It helps individuals prepare for life\u2019s mishaps and understand financial success is an option for everyone. That\u2019s important to LAFCU because individual financial stability is important to the success of the communities LAFCU serves.<\/p>\n

The one-hour classes are Thursdays at 6 p.m., about twice monthly, September 8, 2022 \u2013 April 27, 2023.<\/p>\n

Scott explained that classes offered across eight months allows time for students to realize benefits of even small behavioral changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s building a pathway to financial transformation,\u201d she said. This is LAFCU\u2019s second offering of the course; the first cohort graduated April 2022. Scott said some students were able to stop living paycheck-to-paycheck, pay off debt, start a savings account and improve their credit score.<\/p>\n

One graduate, Cathy Daniels of Dimondale, sums up the course\u2019s impact: \u201cIt changed my life. It is so useful to everyday life it should be required learning for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Course topics include financial attitudes and behaviors, budgeting, investing, home and automobile ownership, dealing with financial stress, improving one\u2019s credit score, money management in retirement, and barriers that have prevented equal access to financial resources.<\/p>\n

Speakers will be LAFCU professionals in collections, lending, investments, insurance, and diversity, equity and inclusion; as well as outside experts in financial counseling, auto lending and auto maintenance, and mortgages; and even a health and wellness coach.<\/p>\n

Graduates will be celebrated at a cap-and-gown ceremony.<\/p>\n

To enroll, visit www.lafcu.com\/pathway<\/span><\/a>. The course is open to people who live, work, worship or attend school in Michigan, the credit union\u2019s geographical service territory.<\/p>\n

The Pathway to Financial Transformation personal finance course is the most recent complement to LAFCU\u2019s financial literacy program, which includes free classes on singular financial topics for adults and real-world financial education for K-12 students.<\/p>\n

Annual Chocolate Walk is October 7<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2nd Annual Chocolate Walk is planned for Friday, October 7, 2022
\nfrom 5 \u2013 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Chocolate Walk is sure to be a night of sweet fun for everyone. Enjoy a night touring St. Johns businesses while collecting a chocolate treat at each stop. Complete the map for a chance to win a prize. Be sure to stop at bonus locations outside of the downtown area for additional chances to win.<\/p>\n

Tickets start at $15 per person, with the option to upgrade to a $25 Golden Ticket and receive a commemorative wooden box to collect your chocolate treats.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget free lunches on Tuesdays<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good News Kitchen, a ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church, began serving free lunches on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The St. John’s Lutheran Church is located at 511 E. Sturgis St. in St. Johns, the corner of Business 27 and Sturgis St. You may stop by and grab a free lunch to go for yourself, your family, a friend or a neighbor. Meals are free for everyone, and all are welcome to come although donations are always accepted and appreciated.<\/p>\n
