All concerts begin at 7 p.m., rain or shine at the William E. Tennant Performance Shell, St. Johns City Park. Food booth courtesy of the St. Johns Lions Club.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mint Festival Senior Citizens Day<\/strong> &#8211; August 10<\/p>\n<p>Senior Citizens have a special time set aside just for them during the festival. On Friday, August 10 in the Main Pavilion in the City Park from 2-5 p.m. seniors will be able to play bingo, get health checks, enter for door prizes and enjoy complimentary refreshments. The first 100 seniors attending Senior Citizens Day will receive a goodie bag filled with various items. From 4-5 p.m. Karen Domanski will entertain the crowd with musical entertainment. Senior Citizen Day is made possible in part by sponsorship from the Clinton County Senior Center.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mint Festival around town<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><br \/>\nMint Festival Down at the Depot<\/em><br \/>\nThe Mint Festival Down at the Depot celebration will be on Friday and Saturday, August 10 and August 11 in the Rotary Park Pavilion and on the Train Depot lawn at 107 E. Railroad Street in Downtown St. Johns. On Saturday, August 11 from 2-6 pm the Mint City USA Classic Car Show will be on Railroad Street. A Beer Tent will be open Friday and Saturday from 7 pm to 12 am with live music at 8 p.m. each night. Entertainment includes Miranda and the M80\u2019s on Friday night and The Squids Band on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p><em>Briggs Public Library<\/em> will be hosting a used book sale at the library in downtown St. Johns during all hours of the festival. The library is located on the corner of Spring and Railroad Street \u2013 enter through the back door off Spring Street. The <em>Clinton County Arts Council<\/em> will be open Friday, August 10 between 10 am \u2013 5 pm and on Saturday between 10 am \u2013 6 p.m. <em>Paine Gillam Scott Museum<\/em> will be open Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12 between 1-4 p.m.and the <em>Railroad Museum<\/em> will all be open Saturday, August 11 between 12-5 p.m. and Sunday, August 12 between 1-4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>As a special tribute to honor Veterans of War, the <em>Mount Rest Cemetery<\/em> will be flying over 565 flags that measure 5 feet by 9.5 feet each on Saturday, August 11 of the Mint Festival weekend. These United States memorial flags will line the roadway of the cemetery and are donated by family members in memory of their loved ones. This drive is not only beautiful but will make you proud to be an American. These flags are flown on most military holidays from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm and several other dates throughout the year. The flags are put up and down by many local veterans and community volunteers. The Mount Rest Cemetery flies more memorial flags than the National Cemetery of Michigan or the Fort Custer National Cemetery<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Hunter Safety classes offered<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Michigan DNR and the City of St. Johns are sponsoring a Hunter\u2019s Safety Training course. This years format is a home study format with 2 separate field day sessions being held on August 18 and September 8 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, participants must bring their own lunch. You only have to attend ONE of the field day sessions, if there is space available in the session you want. Only 30 kids are allowed in each session, and children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire day. The deadline to register these sessions, is a week before the session starts. Classes will fill up fast, only 15 spots available for session 1, so do not miss out on your hunter safety certificates this year.<\/p>\n<p>Participants must pre-register with the City of St. Johns and pick-up the required book a week before their scheduled field day. The home study test must be completed before the field day. We will share a short chapter book over the 4-week session, and we will play, toss, balance, spin, and more with a series of games each week. Registration is required and is open at this time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Back to School<\/em> \u2013 Students who will be entering preschool or kindergarten are welcome to join us for stories about starting school, a craft, and a snack on Thursday, August 9, from 6:30-7:30p.m. Registration for this program is required.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tween Program<\/em> \u2013 Tweens ages 9-12 can join us on Tuesday, August 7, from 6:30-7:30p.m. when we will be creating shoebox cities! During this makerspace event, tweens will use recycled materials to design neighborhoods and create a city. Registration is required for this event, and is now available.<\/p>\n<p><em>Seed Saving<\/em> &#8211; Abigail Harper from MSU Extension will be here to discuss seed saving from your home vegetable or flower garden on Thursday, August 16th from 6:30-7:30. Registration is not requried but is appreciated. No library card is requried for this program.<\/p>\n<p><em>Play-Doh Fun!<\/em> \u2013 Children ages 4-6 are welcome to join us at the library on Tuesday August 14, 6:30 \u2013 7:30 for an hour of fun and creativity. We provide the Play-Doh and other creative items like beads, feathers, straws, toothpicks, etc. Registration is required and available now.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019S LEGO Time<\/em> &#8211; We have tubs of LEGOS for imaginative building and creating fun for children ages 7-12 on Tuesday, August 21, 6:30-7:30. Registration is required and open.<br \/>\n<em><br \/>\n\u201cSticks and Stones\u201d Toddler Storytime<\/em> \u2013 Children ages 2-3 years old (with a participating adult) will enjoy stories that \u201crock with friendship\u201d, creative movement, music, games and crafts. This storytime is offered on Thursday mornings, 10:30-11am or Thursday evenings, 6:30-7pm, September 6th to October 11th. Registration is required and begins, Thursday, August 9th.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTogether Time Tales\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Lapsit Storytime \u2013 Children ages 12 to 24 months (with adult participation) can have fun listening to age appropriate stories, creative movement, simple sign language, music and more. Join us on Friday mornings 10:30-11 am, September 7 \u2013 October 12 OR Monday evenings, 6:30-7pm, September 10 \u2013 October 15. Registration is necessary and opens on Friday, August 10th.<\/p>\n<p><em>Deconstruction! Maker Electronics Program<\/em> \u2013 (Ages 8 \u2013 12 years old) Let\u2019s find out what they look like inside, let\u2019s see what makes them work, let\u2019s tear them apart! We will provide the tools and safety glasses to use while taking old electronic equipment apart. Join us on Tuesday, September 11th at 6:30-7:30 p.m.. Registration is required and opens on Tuesday, August 14th.<\/p>\n<p><em>Library Closure<\/em> &#8211; The Library will be closing at 1:00pm on Friday August 10 and be closed Saturday August 11 during the Mint Festival. Railroad Street in front of the Library will be closed to traffic starting Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. The Library will also be closed Saturday September 1 and Monday September 3 for the Labor Day Holiday.
