All concerts begin at 7 p.m., rain or shine at the William E. Tennant Performance Shell, St. Johns City Park. Food booth courtesy of the St. Johns Lions Club.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Lowe UMC to host benefit Ice Cream Social<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/lowe-293x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1775\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Lowe United Methodist Church will host an afternoon of food, ice cream and fellowship on Sunday, August 26th from 1 &#8211; 3 p.m. at 5485 W. Lowe Rd<\/p>\n<p>A free will donation will be collected to support a family from the community.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a bounce house for the kids.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Hunter Safety course begins August 18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Michigan DNR and the City of St. Johns are sponsoring a Hunter\u2019s Safety Training course. This years format is a home study format with 2 separate field day sessions being held on August 18 and September 8 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, participants must bring their own lunch. You only have to attend ONE of the field day sessions, if there is space available in the session you want. Only 30 kids are allowed in each session, and children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire day. The deadline to register these sessions, is a week before the session starts. Classes will fill up fast, only 15 spots available for session 1, so do not miss out on your hunter safety certificates this year.<\/p>\n<p>Participants must pre-register with the City of St. Johns and pick-up the required book a week before their scheduled field day. The home study test must be completed before the field day. For more information call 989-533-9535 or 989-544-5764<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Briggs District Library News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Briggs Anniversary Celebration<\/em>! \u2013 Join us on Tuesday, September 25 as we celebrate 20 years since becoming Briggs Library and moving to our current location on Railroad Street! As part of the celebration, we will be holding prize drawings each hour throughout the day, and then hosting an ice cream social starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by a special entertainment program at 7:00 p.m. The entire community is invited to join us in celebrating this milestone, as we reflect on our past and look toward the future.<\/p>\n<p><em>Briggs Reads<\/em>! \u2013 The concluding event of our annual Briggs Reads! Program will be held Tuesday, September 18 from 7:00-8:00p.m. That is when Karen Dionne, author of the international bestseller, The Marsh King\u2019S Daughter, will be at the library to discuss her book. Dionne has written a tale of \u201cmesmerizing psychological suspense, the story of a woman who must risk everything to hunt down the dangerous man who shaped her past and threatens to steal her future: her father.\u201d This event is free and open to the public. No library card is needed to attend, though advance registration is appreciated, and begins Tuesday, August 21.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tech Time <\/em>\u2013 Library staff will be available each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 for drop-in tech help starting September 12.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/library3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"336\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1855\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Tales to Tails<\/em> \u2013 15 minute sessions for children ages 6-12 to practice reading aloud to Ruger, a certified therapy dog. Registration is required and is open now.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s LEGO time<\/em> &#8211; We have tubs of LEGOS for imaginative building and creating fun for children ages 7-12 on Tuesday, August 21, 6:30-7:30. Registration is required and open.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSticks and Stones\u201d Toddler Storytime<\/em> \u2013 Children ages 2-3 years old (with a participating adult) will enjoy stories that \u201crock with friendship\u201d, creative movement, music, games and crafts. This storytime is offered on Thursday mornings, 10:30-11am or Thursday evenings, 6:30-7pm, September 6th to October 11th. Registration is required and available now!<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTogether Time Tales\u201d \u2013 Lapsit Storytime<\/em> \u2013 Children ages 12 to 24 months (with adult participation) can have fun listening to age appropriate stories, creative movement, simple sign language, music and more. Join us on Friday mornings 10:30-11 am, September 7 \u2013 October 12 OR Monday evenings, 6:30-7pm, September 10 \u2013 October 15. Maker Electronics Program<\/em> \u2013 (Ages 8 \u2013 12 years old) Let\u2019s find out what they look like inside, let\u2019s see what makes them work, let\u2019s tear them apart! We will provide the tools and safety glasses to use while taking old electronic equipment apart.
