This year&#8217;s event will be held on Friday September 14, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Downtown businesses will be opened for extended hours as they host local artists and musicians who will showcase their works and\/or talents. The Mike Shafley Band, sponsored by Butler Financial Group, will be featured. <a href=\"http:\/\/mikeshafleyband.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">http:\/\/mikeshafleyband.com\/<\/font><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/shafley.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1966\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Come for dinner too. Many food vendors will be available. Food ticket sales will be available. Vendors will not need to handle money and make transactions but be committed to your taste buds. MacKenzie Company\u2019s work on the drain relocation project. This is now just pending approval of a purchase and development agreement between the City and Glanbia, a global nutrition group based in Ireland and who has partnered with Select Milk Producers Inc. and Dairy Farmers of America to form Spartan Michigan LLC.<\/p>\n<p>Per Public Act 198, the City Commission approved the establishment of an Industrial Development District and subsequently approved Industrial Facilities Tax (IFT) Exemptions for both Spartan Michigan and Proliant Dairy Michigan make the projects financially viable. The IFT exemption applications will go before the Michigan State Tax Commission for final approval later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Announced by LEAP on August 9, the new dairy processing campus is expected to dramatically improve the production, profitability, and long-term prospects for one of Michigan\u2019s top agricultural products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City of St. Johns has strived for years to create a business-friendly atmosphere and specifically created the Business Park to showcase all that St. Johns has to offer,\u201d said St. Johns Mayor Dana Beaman. \u201cSt. Johns\u2019 ideal location, friendly residents, and strong business community makes it an ideal location for any type of business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Construction for both facilities on the 146-acre industrial park site is expected to begin in September of this year and be completed by October of 2020. When complete, the Lansing region\u2019s site will be among the largest dairy processing facilities in the country.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Food and Fun Fest at the Depot<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>by Maralyn Fink<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday evening I visited the Pilgrim Church Food and Fun Fest. It was a great night for this after all of the rain we had.<\/p>\n<p>Things were in full swing with games for the kids and free food for everyone. Till next time.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s official: The Soap Box Derby is coming back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/soapbox-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"283\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1969\" \/><\/p>\n<p> The Soap Box Derby is coming back to St. Johns on June 16, 2019. Father&#8217;s Day racers are needed. This includes boys and girls 7 to 17. The first 150 to sign up will be racing.<\/p>\n<p>Of the old Soap Box Derby Barry Bauer recalls, &#8220;Usually they started off the Soap Box Derby by holding a race between the three industries located in St. Johns. That would be Saylor-Beall, Sealed Power (Mahle), and Federal-Mogul.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/soapold.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"291\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1968\" \/><br \/>\n<em>In the lead and driving the Federal-Mogul car is Kermit Hart, Federal Mogul plant manager.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The suspicious puff of smoke behind the Federal-Mogul car indicates that there was some hanky-panky going on and explains the big lead held by Federal-Mogul.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>CRV held Robotics Class<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Community Resource Volunteers had ten students, ranging in age from 5 to 9 years-old, participate in Robotics classes held at the CRV offices August 7 through August 10.<\/p>\n<p>The students built basic robot kits and used computers to program their robots to negotiate a maze to include using light sensors to turn right or left and touch sensors to back up when hitting the maze wall.<\/p>\n<p>CRV hopes to open their offices to students after school to continue working on their robots. Opening day of Uncle John&#8217;s Cider Mill Barn on Sept. 1 will feature the jumping pillow, gemstone mining, yard games, wagon and train rides, the corn maze, cider and wine tasting, baked goods, caramel apples and live music.<\/p>\n<p>******<\/p>\n<p>Sample ciders from some of Michigan\u2019s premier cideries at the Mid Mitten Cider Fest at Uncle John\u2019s.
