Iler to speak at unveiling of his latest statue August 10<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Allen Neighborhood Center, as well as the Neighborhood Leader for Prospect Place Neighborhood in Lansing, would like to invite you to their Summer Art Celebration on Thursday, August 10th from 4:30-7:00 PM.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, August 10 the beautiful large Mother Tree Statue designed by local artist Ivan Iler will be unveiled. This gorgeous piece of art will continue the work of transforming Kalamazoo Street and Hunter Park into even more beautiful places that reflect the community\u2019s diversity and creativity.<\/p>\n

Organizers have already added colorful bike rack designs and three decorated bus stops, and we have plans to paint artistic crosswalks on the street. The main purpose of this event is to bring the Eastside community together in celebration, so they are also providing free food from four delicious Eastside restaurants \u2014 Smokeshow BBQ, Teffrific, Hong Kong, and G3Food4All.<\/p>\n

The Art Celebration will take place at Hunter Park , 1400 E Kalamazoo St, in Lansing. The event itself will be near the pavilion near the intersection of Clifford and Marcus.<\/p>\n

Tentative Run of Show:<\/p>\n

4:30 PM: Emcee (Ethan Schmitt) opens event
\n4:35 PM: Mayor Andy Schor speaks
\n4:45 PM: Councilmember Ryan Kost speaks
\n4:55 PM: Yasmina Bouraoui (the neighborhood leader who wrote the grant) speaks
\n5:00 PM: Joe Enerson (Executive Director of Allen Neighborhood Center) speaks
\n5:05 PM: Ivan Iler (the one who built the statue) speaks and unveils statue
\n5:10 PM: The attendees are invited and encouraged to enjoy the free food that provided from Smokeshow BBQ, Hong Kong Restaurant, G3Food4All, and Teffrific.<\/p>\n

They will also have many yard games and be encouraging everyone to come together in community.<\/p>\n

St. Johns losing a young police officer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many were sad to hear that the City of St. Johns Police Department is loosing another great young officer.<\/p>\n

Best wishes Officer Ryan Collier. This community’s loss is definitely another\u2019s gain. Thanks for your service to our community.<\/p>\n

Update on Eagle Twp Supervisor Patti Schafer\u2019s recall<\/strong><\/p>\n

Judge Barkman, of the 29th Circuit Court for Clinton County, issued her ruling on Supervisor Schafer\u2019s appeal of the approval of the recall petition language.<\/p>\n

The Opinion and Order was 5 pages, addressing each argument of the appeal, but ultimately the conclusion read:
\n\u201cTherefore for the reason stated in the above Opinion, upon de novo review, this Court will uphold the decision of the Commission to approve the recall language submitted in support of recalling Schafer. Therefore, Schafer\u2019s request for relief is denied.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is a step in the right direction for the residents of Eagle Township who hope to elect someone else who will represent their voices.<\/p>\n

Signatures for the petition have already been turned in and validated by the township. They are now in the process of being validated at the county.<\/p>\n

You can design up to two, frameable, 5 x 7 illustrations with plenty of time to practice beforehand! Bring your friends, family or just your wonderful self and create with us! This class is intended for ages 10 and up. Younger patrons will require a parent.<\/p>\n

Through a series of skill building exercises, award winning watercolor artist, Lisabeth Curnow, will show you how to create various textures, shadows, and depth of tone. These skills will enable you to paint more realistic landscapes and still-life.<\/p>\n

This workshop is for anyone interested in creating watercolor paintings that are inspired by the world around them.<\/p>\n

Previous watercolor experience is helpful. Bring your own supplies to get a better understanding and knowledge of how to use them. Otherwise, supplies will be provided.

RBW Class of 1963 to celebrate 60th reunion August 12<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rodney B. Wilson High School Class of 1963 will hold a 60th reunion on Saturday, August 12, St. Johns Mint Festival Weekend, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. They plan to eat at at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

The celebration will take place at AgroLiquid’s Conference Center, 3055 West M-21 in St. Johns. No Liquor. The cost per person is $40.<\/p>\n
