Socktober is here<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not everyone can open a drawer in the morning and choose a warm pair of socks to start their day. Some of us can, however, and we want to share this soul-warming experience with the soles of those who cannot. During the month of October, Briggs District Library will be collecting new socks for children and adults that will be donated to local charities.<\/p>\n

Please join them with a simple and meaningful gesture to help families and friends who are in need. A new pair of socks, such a little thing, but an important item of clothing that is rarely donated to the less fortunate.<\/p>\n

New socks and underpants are some of the most needed and least donated items to organizations that help those in need. So, this year they are expanding their Socktober drive to include new and packaged underpants as well.<\/p>\n

These new items can be dropped off at the library circulation desk until Wednesday, October 31. More information about Socktober can be found on the website<\/font><\/a>.<\/p>\n

East Olive Community Center to celebrate Grand Opening<\/strong> – Saturday, November 3<\/p>\n

Join organizers for the Grand Opening Celebration of the new East Olive Community Center on Saturday, November 3 for an afternoon of fun and games.<\/p>\n

There will be various carnival games, arts and Crafts, pumpkin painting, hay rides, Story time, indoor big screen movie and many other activities for families.<\/p>\n

The Center is located in the former East Olive Elementary School building located at 2583 Green Road east of St. Johns.<\/p>\n

Vineyard Youth Theater now enrolling<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vineyard Youth Theater is now enrolling for the Christmas Program. Enrollment nights will be October 15 and 17 and October 22 and 24 at 6 – 7 p.m. The cost for enrollment is $185.<\/p>\n

Children’s Garden ends another successful season<\/strong><\/p>\n

Join folks at Briggs District Library as they wrap up another successful season in the Rae Johnson Children’s Garden.
\nThey will prepare the garden for winter, and then all will celebrate with food on the fire.<\/p>\n

Lowe UMC Craft Show and Bake Sale will be Saturday, October 20<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lowe United Methodist Church is holding a Craft Show and Bake Sale, Saturday, October 20th from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

They have over 20 vendors with items ranging from Lularoe, knit and crochet items, essential oils, lavender items, Scentsy, ThirtyOne, local honey and so much more. The CRAVE food truck will also be on site.<\/p>\n

The Church is at 5485 W Lowe Rd. St. Johns.<\/p>\n

Community Thanksgiving planned for K of C Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Thursday, November 22 there will be a no-cost community Thanksgiving Celebration and Dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The worship service will start at 11 a.m., and the dinner will be held from 1-2 p.m.<\/p>\n

This event is being sponsored by several community businesses, churches and service organizations. If you would like to help with a donation, or to volunteer your time, please call 989-292-0972.<\/p>\n

Soup kitchen makes stops in area next week<\/strong><\/p>\n

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at<\/p>\n

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, October 16 and at<\/p>\n

– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18.<\/p>\n
