Flexible hours can be scheduled based on your availability.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested, please call 989-224-2429.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Upcoming Kids Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Little Hoopsters Basketball Program (Biddy Basketball)<\/em><br \/>\nThe City of St. Johns Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the 2019 K-2nd Little Hoopsters Basketball Program (Biddy Basketball). This six-week program, for children in kindergarten through 2nd grade, will introduce children to the game of basketball. The program will be on Saturdays starting February 9th through March 16th starting at 9:00 am, with each session lasting an hour.<\/p>\n<p>The program is meant to be a positive introduction to the game of basketball for first year players and a skill sharpening opportunity for returning players. All participants can expect to learn, from parents and volunteers, the basics of basketball in a non-competitive and safe atmosphere. An emphasis will be placed on all players playing the same amount, good sportsmanship, fundamentals and having fun.<\/p>\n<p>The cost to be a part of this 6 week program is $31 for St. Johns School district residents and $36 for non- St. Johns School district residents. The deadline for registration is January 18, 2019, no drop-ins will be allowed. Each participant that pre-registers will receive a t-shirt, certificate, individual award.<\/p>\n<p>The Recreation Department needs volunteer parents\/coaches for K-2nd grade levels. No experience needed, we provide a coach&#8217;s manual to help you out. You must enjoy working with children and want to make a difference in the lives of our young people. Basketball University Sports and Events LLC will provide instruction on skill development to help your child with ball handling, shooting, and understanding team play. Your child will get helpful information that will prepare them to better understand the game of basketball. Can&#8217;t make it every week, then just drop-in and pay for the weeks you can make it, if spots are available.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for the program is $ 42.00 when pre-registering for 6 weeks or $10 per week drop-in for St. Johns School district residents and $48.00 when pre-registering and $12 per week for drop-in for non-school district residents. Drops-ins are allowed only if space permits, to ensure your spot pre-register by February 1, 2019. The six week class is designed for boys and girls, ages 5-12 years old who want to learn discipline, self-defense, and have fun. Classes will be held on Wednesday&#8217;s from 6:15 to 7:00 pm starting February 6th at PKSA St. Johns at 320 N. Clinton Ave.<\/p>\n<p>The cost is $40.00 for St. Johns City Residents and $45 for non- City Residents. The deadline for registration is January 31, 2019, NO drop-ins will be allowed. It is a part of Smart911, so the sign up for both is in one place. It is a new system that allows Clinton County  responders to notify you of emergencies and get help to you faster.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone who is signed up for CodeRED will need to sign up for RAVE. It is a perfect time to join them.<\/p>\n<p>They meet at the Redeemer Methodist Church, St. Johns campus just east of the courthouse in St. Johns on Mondays at 7-8:30 p.m. For more information call Ellen at 989-233-5775.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Briggs District Library News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Coding Club<\/em> &#8211; The library is offering a new Coding Club, where participants can learn about the concepts and principles of programming and coding by using the library&#8217;s Ozobots. These are introductory programs that require no prior knowledge or experience with the topics. A 4-week session is available for children ages 5-7 on Tuesday evenings, January 8-29, from 6:30-7:30, and a 3-week session is available for children ages 8-10 on Saturday mornings, January 12-26, from 10:30-11:30. Visit our website for more information about this program, Ozobots, and for registration.<\/p>\n<p><em>Adult Computer Class<\/em> &#8211; The library will be offering a two-week beginner&#8217;s computer class that will cover the basics &#8211; the parts of a computer, using a mouse and keyboard, and using the Internet. The class will be held on Monday, January 14 and Monday, January 21 from 10:30-noon. Registration for this free program is available by calling the library.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lapsit Storytime<\/em> &#8211; Children ages 12 &#8211; 24 months with adult participation are invited to join us for age appropriate stories, music, creative movement and simple sign language. Choose Friday mornings, 10:30 &#8211; 11 from February 15- March 22 or Monday evenings, 6:30-7 from February 18 &#8211; March 25. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to socialize with each other. Registration is required and begins Friday, January 18th.<\/p>\n<p><em>Friendship Yoga<\/em> &#8211; Sign up to share the story &#8220;Yoga Friends: a pose-by-pose partner adventure for kids by Mariam and Rolf Gates. We will introduce children (ages 7 &#8211; 9) to the delights and benefits of partner yoga. We will learn how cooperation helps us to imagine, move and have fun in a whole new way. The program will be on Monday, February 4th, 6:30 to 7:30. Registration is required and begins on Monday, January 7th. Yoga mats will be provided.<\/p>\n<p><em>Toddler Storytime<\/em>&#8211; Children ages 2-3 (with a participating adult) are invited to join us on Wednesday mornings, 10:30-11:00, February 6th- February 27th where we will read stories, move to the music, and explore our imagination with crafts. Registration is required and begins Wednesday, January 9th.<\/p>\n<p><em>Congrats Readers!<\/em> &#8211; Staff at Briggs Library would like to give a big shout out to all our young readers who have completed our 1000 Books before Kindergarten challenge within the last two years. Since we started the program in the winter of 2017 we have had 15 children complete the program. We would like to congratulate Henry, Mason, Ethan, Landon, Merrick, Lauren, Madeleine, Ellie, Levi, Liam, Paisley, Rhylie, Jack, Keagan, and Braiden. Our 1000 Books before Kindergarten program is an on-going free program and we encourage kids within Clinton County to come in and sign up.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You!<\/em> &#8211; A Big Thank You from Chapter Chatter Kids to PKSA Karate with Mr. Swanson for showing us some &#8216;moves&#8221;, OhMi Organics with Mr. and Mrs. Hurst for sharing some &#8220;sweet&#8221; time with us, and Tiny by Design Art and Whimsical Party Gallery where Sara helped us &#8220;create&#8221; an ornament for the holidays. Registration is required for this program and began Wednesday, December 5th.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tales to Tails<\/em> &#8211; 15 minute sessions for children ages 6-12 to practice reading aloud to Ruger, a certified therapy dog. Ruger will be at the library the following Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30: 1\/10 and 1\/24, 2\/14 and 2\/28, 3\/14 and 3\/28, 4\/11 and 4\/25, 5\/9 and 5\/23.
