Spring Wetlands Conservation banquet is Friday, April 26<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Clinton County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited (DU) will host it’s 38th Annual Spring Wetlands Conservation banquet on Friday, April 26, 2019. The event will once again be held at Smith Hall on the 4-H Fairgrounds in St. Johns.<\/p>\n

The local DU committee wants everyone to know that the Clinton County DU banquet is for the entire family. We encourage dads to bring their wives and youngsters. For tickets, banquet information, or if you want to volunteer to help on the local DU banquet planning committee, become a sponsor, or donate money or items, you can contact any of the following local DU committee members: Kurt Hufnagel at 989-224-2072, Chris Mikula at 989-640-7104, Joe Woodruff at 517-775-4474, Craig Knight at 989-224-8687, Dennis Koenigsknecht at 989-224-4120 or Ben Rosek.<\/p>\n

Chronic Pain workshop coming up<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this interactive workshop, people are taught effective tools to better self-manage their condition and its impact on their life.<\/p>\n

Managing chronic pain is more than taking medications. We address a variety of topics including fatigue management, dealing with difficult emotions, and pacing and planning.<\/p>\n

This includes the Moving Easy Program: safe exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and endurance. Caregivers and significant others are also welcome to sign up and attend as active participants. The workshop is free of charge<\/em>, but pre-registration is required.<\/p>\n

Register with Tri-County Office on Aging at 517-887-1465. (Priority is given to those 50+ but all are welcome to call. Funding is provided by Michigan State Medical Society.<\/p>\n

2019 Superhero 5K Run, Walk, or Fly! is April 27<\/strong><\/p>\n

LAFCU offers scholarships<\/strong><\/p>\n

LAFCU is accepting applications for its 2019 Write to Educate Essay Contest that offers two $2,500 college scholarships to high school seniors and allows each winner to direct a $500 donation from LAFCU to a charity. Lansing State Journal is the community sponsor of the contest.
\nThe scholarships can be used at Lansing Community College, Lansing, or at any Baker College campus in Michigan or online.<\/p>\n

The entry deadline is March 31. Applications are available at www.lafcu.com\/lafcumyway<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Winners will be chosen based on their one-page essay in response to the questions: Why is diversity important? How can you embrace and promote diversity in college?<\/p>\n

A donation of $500 will be made to the charity of each winner’s choice of one of the following organizations:
\n– Shiawassee Hope
\n– Habitat for Humanity Capital Region
\n– Haven House<\/p>\n

Applicants do not need to be members of LAFCU, but they must attend high school in Michigan, LAFCU’s service territory.<\/p>\n

Tools for Caregivers coming in March<\/strong><\/p>\n

Powerful Tools for Caregivers, scheduled for Mondays March 25 – April 29, is an interactive program designed to help family caregivers take better care of themselves while caring for a family member or friend. This program will give you, the family caregiver, tools to: help reduce stress and guilt, communicate effectively, take care of yourself, and much more.<\/p>\n

This program is not intended for professional caregivers. They meet for 2 \u00bd hours once per week for 6 weeks. The workshop is free of charge, but donations are accepted ($25 suggested donation, but it is not required). Sessions will take place at Dewitt District Library, 13101 Schavey Rd., Dewitt, MI on Mondays March 25 – April 29, 2019 from 9:00 -11:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
