One very encouraging solution is the introduction of opportunities for groups of disabled people to socialize.<\/p>\n<p>Do you want to help empower and build an accepting community for people with intellectual disabilities? Get involved by helping charter a \u201cChampions\u201d Lions Club,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChampions\u201d Lions Clubs focus on projects that serve Special Olympics athletes. Organizers are looking for individuals and families who would like to be involved in this initiative to support these athletes.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a meeting of interested individuals on Thursday, April 11 from 6-7 p.m. at St. John\u2019s Lutheran Church,<br \/>\n511 E. Sturgis, St. John\u2019s, MI 48879. For more information contact Lion Brent (989) 847-2803 <a href=\"mailto:bigbear@bearnet.net\"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">bigbear@bearnet.net<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Superhero 5K Kick Off Event is April 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>St. Johns Big Boy located at 1208 Old US 27 in St. Johns is hosting a kick off event for The Voice for Clinton County&#8217;s Children 2019 Superhero 5K Run, Walk, or Fly!<\/p>\n<p>Join them on Wednesday, April 3 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. 15% of all sales during that time will support the services for abused and neglected children.<\/p>\n<p>A fun evening including special Superhero guests and face painting will be featured. Amazingly, 300+ of those panes of glass remain but most of the people are still unidentified. That&#8217;s where archivests need your help.<\/p>\n<p>There is now a webpage showing you these faces with hope that you know someone. Do you want to create your own creation? Come build your best creation and enter it to win a gift card at the 2019 Robotics Build Competition at the Community Resource Volunteers (CRV).<\/p>\n<p>Enter as an individual or as a team (up to 3 students allowed on a team). There are separate competitions using the RCX and NXT systems. So, no matter which system you know, you can compete. Each team will use the robotics room and all the materials to build their biggest and best robot. Robotics room is available after school Tuesday and Thursdays. At the end of the competition, a panel of judges will score each robot to determine the winner.<\/p>\n<p>Robots receive points for the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Design (how it looks)<br \/>\n\u00b7 Functionality (what it does)<br \/>\n\u00b7 Complexity (abilities)<br \/>\n\u00b7 Capabilities (program)<\/p>\n<p>Registration and building began March 1st. Builds must be completed by April 15th To register, go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crvonline.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000cc;\">www.crvonline.org<\/span><\/a> or call the office at (517) 672-4226.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mint City Garden club to meet April 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The monthly meeting of Mint City Garden club will be held Thursday, April 4, at 7:15.<\/p>\n<p>Torey Caviston, DeVrise Nature Center will be speaking about attracting Bluebirds and bat houses.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings are held at Clinton Commons Community Center, 1105 S. Scott Rd, St. Johns. Visitors are welcome to attend. This meeting is for anyone who is interested in the upcooming Soap Box Derby. The meeting is open to parents, kids, drivers, volunteers, sponsors and the general public.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, there are 32 drivers, 16 stock and 16 super stock. Measurements for shirts for the drivers will be taken at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Please attend this meeting for any information on this event. The Derby will be held on June 16 in downtown St Johns.
