He was born August 21, 1934 in Eagle, MI the son of Luther and Lucy (Watson) Alward. Richard started working at Motor Wheel while still in high school. Soon after, he began a 38 year career at General Motors. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball in his younger years; but his primary job was being a husband, dad, grandpa and friend. Richard was a very social person and once you met him you were a friend. Anyone that knew Richard knew that they were special to him. His unconditional love was a reflection of the Christ he so adored.<\/p>\n<p>Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet (Densteadt); his children, Dawn (Jack) Brown, Richard J. (Stephanie) Alward, Valerie (Patrick) Mertz and Sandra Brettrager; thirteen grandchildren and too many great grandchildren to keep track of.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Graham Church 7320 Beard Rd. Perry, MI 48872. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Special Olympics Area 28, 10100 Williams Rd., DeWitt, MI 48820. The family was assisted with these arrangements by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/font><\/a>, St. Johns.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Richard David Andrews<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/andrews_richard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4436\" \/>Richard David Andrews, age 88 of St. Johns, MI went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 4, 2019 surrounded by family.<\/p>\n<p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church   St. Johns, MI at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, MI.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. with a Vigil and Rosary prayed at 7:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes &#8211; Osgood Chapel, St. Johns.<\/p>\n<p>Richard was born in St. Johns, MI on September 19, 1930 the son of John and Olivia (Wacker) Andrews.  He was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School.  Richard married Doris M. Thelen on May 29, 1956 in Fowler, MI. He resided most of his life in St. Johns.<\/p>\n<p>Richard worked at General Motors in Lansing for 37 years and also farmed.  After retirement, he worked for Pauli Ford driving cars and at A&#038;M Apple Orchard.  Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He loved gardening, farming, his tractors and the outdoors.  Spending time with his family was very important to him.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus for over 50 years; he also was a member of the VFW St. Johns Post 4113.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife Doris Andrews of St. Johns, MI; daughter Shirley Clark of Gaines, MI; daughter Linda Cremer of Mason, MI; daughter Karen Wood of St. Johns, MI; daughter Sharon and Kevin Conley of St. Johns, MI; daughter Nancy Andrews of Lansing, MI; son Ken and Karen Andrews of DeWitt, MI; son Gary and Debra Andrews of Eagle, MI; son Don (Kerry Lund) Andrews of Lansing, MI;  22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Norma Andrews of St. Johns, MI; sister-in-law Norene Andrews of Lansing, MI.  Richard is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ronald Andrews, his great-granddaughter Allison Andrews and 3 brothers: Clarence Andrews, Lawrence Andrews and Paul Andrews.<\/p>\n<p>Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Education Trust Fund or St. Vincent dePaul. The family is being served by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">Smith Family Funeral Homes<\/font><\/a> &#8211; Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Melva Jean Yanna<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/yanna_melva.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4433\" \/>Melva Jean Yanna, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away, Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at McLaren Hospital in Lansing following a brief illness.<\/p>\n<p>Jean was born on May 3, 1956 in Owosso, Michigan, the daughter of Bruce and Melva Dean Parrott. She graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School in 1976. On October 29, 1977 she married James Yanna. Her lifes&#8217; work included working for various newspapers as an advertising sales representative. One of her dear departed friends, Pastor Bob Prange once said, &#8220;She could sell ice-cubes to Eskimos.&#8221; Jean was dedicated in her sales efforts; she cared deeply for her clients and knew the importance of giving great customer service. Besides her work in advertising sales, she was a foster parent to Jessica and Mara. She was active in the women\u2019s group at church, liked to sew, enjoyed camping and spending time with family.<\/p>\n<p>Jean is survived by her husband Jim of Laingsburg, her son Jimmy of St Johns, her daughter Jennifer of East Lansing, four grandchildren: Ashley and Brandon Yanna of St Johns, and Amber and Michael Smith of East Lansing. Also surviving her are several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.<\/p>\n<p>Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at noon at Grove Bible Church, 6990 E. Price Road, St Johns, MI 48879. A luncheon will immediately follow.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
