They will also showcase some of the major fires that have occurred in Clinton County in years past.

Police and fire protection are probably any organized community’s most valuable assets. Working hand in hand in many situations, they represent a dedicated group of highly trained individuals ready to serve at a moments notice in an infinite variety of emergencies.

Some of you may remember and some were before your time, but it will be a most interesting exhibit. If you have memories or photos relating to this exhibit please share them with them.

There will also be an exhibit celebrating the return of the Soap Box Derby to St. Johns.

Sheriff Jack Barnes and his deputy Percy Patterson show off their haul of confiscated marijuana back in the late 1930s.

We are in dire need of photos of previous sheriffs of Clinton County. This contest is open to all residents of Clinton County.

Our current Poet Laureate, Dennis Hinrichsen, has done an amazing job bringing awareness and creativity to the art of poetry. He is very involved and engaged in his poetry workshops and projects. Dennis has published over eight poetry books and has taught at LCC for over 25 years. Dennis has orchestrated these similar contests in Lansing and Charlotte.

As we continue our efforts to provide Clinton County with numerous, creative placemaking locations; the Arts Council’s poetry etching contest is looking for poems that illuminate where we live, where we work and where we play. As you are creating your poem for submission, give thought to the three locations; the history, events and glorious memories they’ve brought and continue to bring.

Dennis Hinrichsen will be holding Free Poetry Workshops on Saturday, June 22nd and 29th at Deb’s Sereni-TEA Lounge from 1:00-3:00pm. These workshops will help critic and provide insight to your works.

This project is supported and largely funded by the City of St. Johns.

Deadline for poem submissions is August 2nd. A panel of three judges made up of community/business folks, writers and artists will review and winners will be announced August 16. Etching will take place in early September in time for Art Walk: Chalk It Up!

Please view the clintoncountyarts.org website for guidelines and submission details.

IQhub offering summer day camps

The IQhub is offering a day camp for kids that they will be sure to love.
