Maple Rapids Picnic is July 13<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maple Rapids Fire and Rescue will be hosting their annual Chicken BBQ Picnic on Saturday, July 13 from 1 – 5 p.m. in the Maple Rapids Park.<\/p>\n

Please join them for live local entertainment, Kids Activities, 50-50, and a Bean Bag Tournament. Price per meal will be $5. Seating is limited, so please bring lawn chairs or a blanket. NO ALCOHOL is permitted in the park.<\/p>\n

Mark your calendars June 15, 2019 for the 23rd annual Special Olympics Area 28 Clinton County Golf Scramble at the Emerald Golf Course. Continental breakfast, 18 holes with cart, luncheon, raffles, prizes are all included for only a $70 entry fee.<\/p>\n

They are looking for golfers and sponsors to make this outing a success. The money raised helps pay for equipment, uniforms, transportation and much more. Area 28 wants to reach out and include as many children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Special Olympics as possible. In order to do so, they need community support.<\/p>\n

Soup kitchen makes stops in area<\/strong><\/p>\n

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at<\/p>\n

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, May 28 and<\/p>\n

– First Baptist Church\/Beacon of Hope (northwest parking lot), 512 S. US 27, St. Johns from 12-1:30 pm, Thursday, May 30 and at<\/p>\n

– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30.<\/p>\n

Soup, bread, fruit and dessert will be served to all who come free of charge. For more information call 517-388-2005.<\/p>\n

Arts Council sponsoring poetry contest<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Arts Council is looking for poems that reveal and celebrate the writer\u2019s connection to the artistic, creative and cultural life of St. Johns.<\/p>\n

Three poems will be selected and etched in the sidewalk in following locations around St. Johns:<\/p>\n

** Train Depot (Clinton Northern Railroad Museum)<\/p>\n

** City Park Main Pavilion<\/p>\n

** Wilson Center<\/p>\n

Summer Programs set to begin June 17<\/strong><\/p>\n

The City of St. Johns is excited to offer over 15 summer recreational programs for area youth. Presented by the City Recreational Department, various programs are available to children in grades K-5th, and camps begin June 17th. Most afternoon programs will include a trip to Sleepy Hollow State Park, where students will be fishing, geocaching, and participating in archery depending on the program chosen. Your child will have fun learning about the deep blue sea and taking a trip to the high school pool in Under the Sea Camp, dig for dinos in Dino Camp, hunt for treasure and plunder in Pirate Camp, sleuth for clues to become a Jr. Detective, or choose to work on the FUNdamentals of gymnastics, football, basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer camps, and much more. See the Recreation Department website for a complete list. The deadline to register for these programs is the Thursday before the camp is scheduled to start. Once classes reach maximum size, they will be closed for registration, so register early!<\/p>\n

Due to necessary maintenance at the high school pool, information for swimming lessons, classes, and open swim will be posted at a later date. Please check the Recreation Department website for updates and availability.<\/p>\n
