The talented performers take the stage at the William E. Tennant Performance Shell June 12 in the opener of the annual St. Johns Concert in the Park summer music series. There is no admission charge for the show that begins at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-23582\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/newindy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/longoria.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/newindy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/longoria.jpg 229w, https:\/\/stjindy.com\/newindy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/longoria-172x300.jpg 172w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/>Part of the traditional Country music scene for more than 27 years, Longoria brands his style of music &#8220;Real Country.&#8221; His versatile voice can handle a wide variety of Country tunes by artists like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Strait and many others, bringing small-town America to the big stage.<\/p>\n<p>Longoria&#8217;s band mates include some of Michigan&#8217;s finest musicians: Barry Glenn, formerly of the Kikker Band, on steel guitar; Pat KcNeally on lead guitar; Dan Gokee on bass; and Bobby Krian on drums. The band plays on a regular basis at the Kewadin Casino in Michigan&#8217;s Upper Peninsula<\/p>\n<p>The talent and relaxed humor of Longoria have never failed him at winning the hearts of his audiences and some of Nashville greatest who gave him the opportunity to open shows for Grand Ole Opry legends like the late Little Jimmie Dickens, Jeannie Seely, the late Jack Greene, the late Jim Ed Brown, the late Ray Price, the late Billy Joe Royal, Baillie &amp; The Boys, Michael Twitty, Neal McCoy &#8211; and his friend Tommy Cash, brother of the late Johnny Cash. Longoria had the honor of singing two duets with Tommy titled &#8220;Six White Horses,&#8221; a #1 song for Tommy, and &#8220;Walk the Line Revisited,&#8221; a #1 song for Louie.<\/p>\n<p>Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the City of St. Johns with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Concerts are held each Wednesday evening; rain or shine. It was a joy to see the racers practice and the excitement in their faces. All went well as they are getting ready for the race day on June 16.<\/p>\n<p>Then on Tuesday evening the Soap Box Derby Committee met at 6 p.m. Plans were being finalized for the upcoming event.<\/p>\n<p>The new ramp was on site for the race. The new lighting installed enhances the general appearance of rooms and the artifacts on display.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Exhibit features the Police and Fire Departments with some very unique objects and photographs. For the months of June and July vintage wedding gowns are displayed throughout the house. Don&#8217;t forget to tour the Swegles General Store and Carriage House as part of your visit to see unique artifacts from farms to factories.<\/p>\n<p>The Museum complex is located at 106 Maple St., west of the Courthouse and next to the Congregational Church. The scholarships were awarded to students pursuing nursing degrees in our community.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>FOMR Float Trip is June 19<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Friends of the Maple River (FOMR) June, Bi-Monthly meeting\/float trip will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrate the end of your work day. Join the Friends of the Maple River on Wednesday, June 19 as we enjoy an evening float down the Maple River to the Elsie Dam. We will meet at 6:30 pm, at the Latoff Landing Boat Launch, located next to the bridge, across from 6040 East French Rd, Elsie. NOTE: The location is at the corner of North St. Clair Rd. and East Maple River Road (French Road).<\/p>\n<p>This two-hour paddle is along a relaxing stretch of the river teeming with wildlife, such as, deer, turkeys, eagles, etc., the perfect way to unwind. For more information call Joyce Haak at (607) 206-3867. Look for the FOMR signs. The float will start at 6:30 PM. They will have vehicles staged at the dam for the return trip. The public is welcome and there is no charge to attend. Anyone interested in the river and watershed is welcome to attend. See you on the river!<\/p>\n<p>Attendees are encouraged to bring their watercraft of choice and plan to spend a little time on the Maple River. Putting your craft in and out of the water will provide you the opportunity to practice the full extent of the Clean Boats, Clean Waters initiative. Feel free to arrive a little early to get your craft ready to go into the water once the program starts at 6:30. Anyone planning to paddle the river must bring his or her own paddling equipment and life jackets (PFD&#8217;s).
