{"id":507,"date":"2018-04-05T20:59:17","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T00:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/?p=507"},"modified":"2018-04-05T20:59:17","modified_gmt":"2018-04-06T00:59:17","slug":"latest-news-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/newindy\/?p=507","title":{"rendered":"Latest News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Weather-related fatality on M-21<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday morning an Ionia High School senior was killed and two others were injured in a head-on crash on M-21 just west of Francis Road in Bengal Township.<\/p>\n<p>Sharon Jury from St. Johns was driving a 1996 Jeep westbound on M-21 when an eastbound 2003 Chrysler lost control on the slushy road, crossed the center line and was struck broadside at the passenger door by Jury&#8217;s vehicle. This eastbound vehicle was driven by a 16 year old male from Muir. The female passenger, 17 year old Kaylee Marie Taylor from Ionia, died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lieutenant Jeff Clarke of the Clinton County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, the other two people were transported by Clinton Area Ambulance to Sparrow Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff\u2019s Office Accident Reconstruction Team. Clinton County Sheriff\u2019s Office was assisted by Fowler Fire and Rescue, Clinton Area Ambulance and Clinton County Central Dispatch.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Early registration for Plein Air Event ends April 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/artsupplies.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"286\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-514\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Clinton County Arts Council will be sponsoring a Plein Air Event on May 12, 2018. As you may know, this is the same day as the downtown district\u2019s \u201cSpring Fling\u201d and the \u201cEat Healthy\/Eat Local Festival\u201d. There will be many artists stationed throughout the downtown area painting the festival, historical homes and businesses; capturing St. Johns and all its beauty.<\/p>\n<p>Artists can obtain an Entry Form at the Art Gallery, 215 N Clinton Avenue. Registration is open to all artists, 17 years and older. Media choices include: oils, acrylics, watercolors, gouache, pastels, charcoal or pencil, and mixed media. This is a 2-dimensional art event.<br \/>\nEarly Registration by April 6, 2018<br \/>\n_____ $25 \u2013 Clinton County Arts Council Member<br \/>\n_____ $30 \u2013 Non-Clinton County Arts Council Member<\/p>\n<p>Registration deadline by April 20, 2018<br \/>\n_____ $30 \u2013 Clinton County Arts Council Member<br \/>\n_____ $35 \u2013 Non-Clinton County Arts Council Member<\/p>\n<p>Suggested items for the day include:<br \/>\n&#8211; brushes<br \/>\n&#8211; easels in backpacks<br \/>\n&#8211; canvases, panels, and paper<br \/>\n&#8211; tube paints<br \/>\n&#8211; mediums for oil, acrylic, and watercolor<br \/>\n&#8211; palettes with paint on them<br \/>\n&#8211; sharp tools like knives, palette knives, razor blades, or scissors<\/p>\n<p>An artist reception will follow at the Clinton County Art Gallery from 2:00-4:00pm to display finished pieces with fellow artist and pianist, Richard Lahmann entertaining us. The exhibition will be on view and available for sale through June 1st in the Clinton County Art Gallery.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Friends of the CIS Trail hold Annual membership meeting<\/strong> &#8211; Wednesday, April 11<\/p>\n<p>The Friends of the Fred Meijer Clinton-Ionia-Shiawassee Trail will hold their annual membership meeting at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 11 in the Commission Chambers on the second floor of the Clinton County Courthouse in St. Johns, Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/frederick.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"274\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-369\" \/>This year\u2019s featured speaker will be Representative Ben Frederick. Mr. Frederick represents the 85th district (Shiawassee County and part of Saginaw County). Prior to his position in the house, Mr. Frederick served for the City of Owosso as a member of the city council and mayor. Representative Frederick is a long-time trail advocate and is working in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Transportation and the City of Owosso to connect the FMCIS Trail to Owosso and to the Minor Trail. In addition, Trail Manager Barry Culham will provide a wrap up of 2017 maintenance activities and an update of possible solutions to the limestone surface issues.<\/p>\n<p>Board elections will take place for 3 three-year positions with terms ending in March, 2021. Members that paid dues in 2017 are eligible to vote in these elections.<\/p>\n<p>This meeting is open to all current, past and potential members of the Friends group and anyone else interested in the promotion and maintenance of this newly completed trail that follows the former railroad corridor running through the counties of Clinton, Ionia and Shiawassee. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Break the Chain viewing <\/strong>&#8211; Thursday, April 19<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/chain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"337\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-510\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. all are invited to Agro Liquid for a free showing of Break the Chain.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re all connected to Human Trafficking. It&#8217;s time to Break the Chain. The one hour documentary is about Human Trafficking with Michigan connections. Speaker, Bob Sheap, will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a slide show presentation of Montenegro, set to music. The reception is open to the public as well.
