They look forward to seeing you on Friday, September 13 between 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Mint City Singers and new Junior Mints now enrolling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Mint City Singers and new Junior Mints community choirs are now enrolling for the Fall Session. No audition or previous experience is needed for either choir. Although being able to match pitch or read music is not a requirement, it is helpful as are a pleasant voice and a sense of humor.<\/p>\n<p>Both choirs rehearse at a new rehearsal space in the South Point Mall in St. Johns. The rehearsal space is located next to the Secretary of State office. Enrollment for both choirs runs through the first practice of each choir.<\/p>\n<p>Both choirs are members of the Clinton County Arts Council. For more information call 517-388-2005.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Briggs District Library News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Maker Electronics Program<\/em> &#8211; Tweens and teens ages 10-13 can join us on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:30-7:30 as we discover what makes old electronic equipment work by taking it apart. Registration is required.<\/p>\n<p><em>TAB<\/em> &#8211; Our first Teen Advisory Board Meeting of the fall will be on Tuesday, September 24 from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Joining TAB allows teens to earn volunteer hours by helping library staff plan teen programs, offering ideas about the library&#8217;s teen collection, and creating a welcoming space for all teens. This special bakery has earned a following for its famous pies and cookies, as well as for its focus on employees, environment, and economy. No library card is needed to attend this free program, but advance registration is appreciated.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bookaholics Book Club<\/em> &#8211; The September selection of the Bookaholics Book Club is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Told in a series of letters, the novel is set in the aftermath of World War II, where a writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. Copies of the book are now available. The club will meet on Thursday, September 19 at 6:30pm at the library. New members are always welcome to join.<\/p>\n<p><em>Euchre Club<\/em> &#8211; Our adult Euchre Club will meet Friday, September 27 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. This free, fun, social is event is open to adults to register as single players or with a partner, and there is no cost or buy-in to play. Registration is very much appreciated, and is now available.<\/p>\n<p><em>Window Painting<\/em> &#8211; Tweens and teens can flex their artistic muscles when we gather to paint the library&#8217;s windows for Halloween! We will supply all the materials, so the painters can show up ready to create on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30. Registration is appreciated, and begins Tuesday, September 3. On Tuesday, November 5 at 6:30 we will provide food and drinks when we gather to clean the windows and prep for a winter art project.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chef&#8217;s Surprise<\/em> &#8211; Budding chef&#8217;s ages 7-10 can join us on Tuesday, October 8 from 6:00-7:30pm when we&#8217;ll learn how to make a culinary creation. Registration is required and begins on Tuesday, September 17.<\/p>\n<p><em>When Hollywood Went to War<\/em> &#8211; Historians Al and Dave Eicher are coming back to the library with another fascinating presentation on Monday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. When Hollywood Went to War features the real life stories of nearly 90 celebrities who served in the U.S. military during World War II. No library card is needed to attend this free program, but advance registration is appreciated, and begins Monday, September 16.<\/p>\n<p><em>Halloween Cook Me a Story<\/em> &#8211; Join us on Monday, October 21 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. when we will create a mummy-tastic treat and more. No library card is needed for this free family program, but registration is required and begins on Monday, September 23. Note: This program will be held at Lowe United Methodist Church, 5485 W Lowe Rd, St. Johns.<\/p>\n<p><em>Toddler Storytime<\/em> &#8211; Wednesday mornings, 10:30-11:00am, from October 23- November 20. Ages 2-3 with an adult. Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, September 25.<\/p>\n<p><em>Garden Tuck-In<\/em> &#8211; Help us wrap up another season in the Rae Johnson Children&#8217;s Garden on Saturday, October 26 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. by getting it ready for the winter and celebrating with food on the fire. Registration is required for this family event and begins on Saturday, September 28.<\/p>\n<p><em>Force and Motion<\/em> &#8211; The team from Impression 5 Science Museum will be at the library on Monday, October 28, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.to guide us through an experiment all about force and motion. We will be creating a track for a marble and then use various materials to control its speed. This program is for children ages 8-12. Registration is required and begins on Monday, September 30.<\/p>\n<p><em>Briggs Blend Of Fun<\/em> &#8211; Chapter Chatter and Chef Surprise &#8220;Together&#8221; &#8211; As a group (ages 6-8) we will enjoy a short chapter book and prepare a different recipe over the 4-week session. The 1st week we will make an appealing appetizer, 2nd week, a scrumptious salad, 3rd week an excellent entr\u00e9e, and the last week of course will be a delicious dessert. We are working on making the 4th week a field trip. Keep tuned. The program is on Monday evenings, 7-7:45 p.m., November 4 thru November 25. Registration is required and opens on Monday, October 7.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tales to Tails<\/em> &#8211; Ruger, a certified therapy dog will be back at the library this fall. Children ages 6-12 can sign up for a 15-minute session to practice reading aloud to Ruger on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month. More than 140 high school women from 10 states, Argentina, Germany and Bahrain were accepted into and attended this highly competitive scholarship program. WIE is part of Michigan Tech&#8217;s Summer Youth Programs.<\/p>\n<p>WIE is a fun, intensive weeklong look at careers in areas such as mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, biomedical, civil, geological and materials engineering. The young women explored engineering with group projects such as designing a building strong enough to withstand an earthquake, creating an artificial intelligence army and more. They received inside information from female role models working in engineering fields. Students accepted in the Women in Engineering program received a scholarship valued are more than $1,000 that covers tuition, room and board, and supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Crook of Dewitt attended the prestigious Engineering Scholars Program (ESP) from July 21 to 27 at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. More than 140 high school students from 13 states were accepted into this highly competitive scholarship program. Engineering Scholars is part of Michigan Tech&#8217;s Summer Youth Programs.<\/p>\n<p>The Engineering Scholars Program provides an opportunity for students to investigate careers in engineering and science. The students participated in engineering sessions, group projects, and special topic presentations with a diverse group of peers from all over the country and around the world. ESP provided a week-long look at engineering careers in areas like mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, chemical, biomedical, civil, geological, and materials engineering.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the high school students experienced college life by staying in residence halls, eating in university cafeterias and exploring campus life among others with similar interests. Following intensive classroom and lab experiences in the day, the girls enjoyed team competitions, a variety show and many outdoor activities in Michigan&#8217;s beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Moolenaar Announces Office Hours for September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Congressman John Moolenaar announced office hours to be held by constituent relations representatives at locations throughout the Fourth District.
