St. Johns Rotary Helping Hands Dinner Raffle is October 19<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual Helping Hands Dinner and Raffle is sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Johns. This premiere event will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019. Nearly 350 community leaders and residents are expected at Smith Hall at the 4-H Fairgrounds for an evening of fun, food, a chance at $15,000 in cash and prizes and a desire to raise money for local and global charities.<\/p>\n

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with Dinner & Program starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for $150 for two from St. Johns Rotarians or by contacting: Gary Lenneman at 517-930-3531 or email: glenneman@frontier.com . One does not need to be present to win.<\/p>\n

The Rotary Club of St. Johns is where neighbors, friends, and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders, and take action to create lasting change. For meeting and membership information, please contact Jon Stoppels at 989-224-8944.<\/p>\n

K of C raffle and dinner coming up October 19<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual Sportsman Raffle and Hog Roast and Turkey Fry sponsored by the local Knights of Columbus will be held on Saturday, October 19. The drawing will be held at 8:00 p.m. The Grand Knight’s drawing will be at 7:30 p.m. You need not be present to win.<\/p>\n

The dinner including roasted pork, fried turkey, baked beans, cole slaw, corn bread and ice cream from Dershey’s will take place from 6-10 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Children 4 and under are free. Self-serve takeouts will be available.<\/p>\n

Lowe UMC to host Trunk or Treat<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Lowe United Methodist Church will host Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 27 from 3 p.m. \u2013 5 p.m. at the church located at 5485 W Lowe Rd. St Johns, MI. 48879.<\/p>\n

Dress up in your costumes and come to Lowe UMC for treats, crafts and great fellowship.<\/p>\n

All are welcome.<\/p>\n

Plan for Halloween<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s never too early to start planning for Halloween fun!<\/p>\n

The City of St. Johns Trick or Treating will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The fire whistle will sound when trick-or-treating begins and ends.<\/p>\n

The Clinton County Chamber of Commerce is also having their annual “An Event So Good It\u2019s Scary” on Thursday, October 31, 2019, 3:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m. This event is daytime trick-or-treating with local businesses in the City of St. Johns.<\/p>\n

Please visit or contact the Clinton County Chamber of Commerce to get a list of all the businesses participating and giving out candy during this event.<\/p>\n

Soup kitchen makes stops in area<\/strong><\/p>\n

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at<\/p>\n

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, October 22<\/p>\n

– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3 pm to 5 pm, Thursday, October 24.<\/p>\n

Soup, bread, fruit and dessert will be served to all who come free of charge. For more information call 517-388-2005.<\/p>\n

Community Halloween Party coming up October 29<\/strong><\/p>\n

St. Johns Big Boy invites you to a Community Halloween Party. All day 15% of sales will benefit advocacy work for abused children by The Voice for Clinton County’s Children.<\/p>\n

Special activities planned form 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. include Superhero Friends from The League of Enchantment, Face Painting, and Trunk or Treat (weather permitting).<\/p>\n

Briggs District Library News<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanksgiving Fun!<\/em> – Children ages 3-6 years old (independent listeners) are invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with turkey tales, a holiday craft, snack and games. Join us on Wednesday, November 6th, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required and open now!<\/p>\n

Halloween Cook Me a Story<\/em> – Join us on Monday, October 21 from 6:30-7:30p.m. when we will create a mummy-tastic treat and more. No library card is needed for this free family program, but registration is required. Note: This program will be held at Lowe United Methodist Church, 5485 W Lowe Rd, St. Johns.<\/p>\n

Toddler Storytime<\/em> – Wednesday mornings, 10:30-11:00am, from October 23- November 20. Ages 2-3 with an adult. Registration is required.<\/p>\n

Euchre Club<\/em> – Our adult Euchre Club will meet Friday, October 25 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. This free, fun, social is event is open to adults to register as single players or with a partner, and there is no cost or buy-in to play. Registration is very much appreciated, and is now available.<\/p>\n

Garden Tuck-In<\/em> – Help us wrap up another season in the Rae Johnson Children’s Garden on Saturday, October 26 from 2:00-4:00p.m. by getting it ready for the winter and celebrating with food on the fire. Registration is required for this family event.<\/p>\n

Force and Motion<\/em> – The team from Impression 5 Science Museum will be at the library on Monday, October 28, from 6:30-7:30p.m. to guide us through an experiment all about force and motion. We will be creating a track for a marble and then use various materials to control its speed. This program is for children ages 8-12. Registration is required.<\/p>\n

Halloween Cartoon and Craft<\/em> – During this spook-tastic hour on Tuesday, October 29, we’ll make a craft, munch on snacks, and watch a Halloween cartoon. This program is for children ages 6-9 and will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration for this program is required and is open now.<\/p>\n

Trick or Treat at the Library<\/em> – Join in the spirit of Halloween by visiting the library on Thursday, October 31. Come in your costume between 3-5 p.m. and select a treat for yourself. All ages welcome.<\/p>\n

Briggs Blend Of Fun!<\/em> – Chapter Chatter and Chef Surprise “Together” – As a group (ages 6-8) we will enjoy a short chapter book and prepare a different recipe over the 4-week session. The 1st week we will make an appealing appetizer, 2nd week, a scrumptious salad, 3rd week an excellent entr\u00e9e, and the last week of course will be a delicious dessert. We will be making chocolates at OhMi Organics! The program is on Monday evenings, 7-7:45 p.m., November 4 thru November 25. Registration is required. Limited to 12 registrations.<\/p>\n

Holiday Program Entertainment<\/em> – Children ages 7-12 can join us Tuesday evenings, November 5-26, from 7:00-7:45 to practice a cardio drumming routine that will be performed at the Holiday Program on Thursday, December 5. Registration is required.<\/p>\n

One Last Chapter <\/em>– Come celebrate over 35 years of story time with Miss Marie. This fun- filled evening will include games, crafts, food, entertainment, and a few surprises. This is a family event taking place on Friday, November 8 from 3:00-9:30 p.m. Families are welcome the entire night or can pick and choose their activities. See our website or stop in at the library for a list of events with times.<\/p>\n

Ancestry<\/em> – The library recently purchased Ancestry Library Edition for genealogical research, and we will be holding an introductory class to help patrons make better use of this great resource. The class will take place on Monday, November 11, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., and will cover the basics of using Ancestry Library Edition. No library card is needed to attend, but advance registration is appreciated, and is now available.<\/p>\n

Tales to Tails<\/em> – Ruger, a certified therapy dog will be back at the library this fall! Children ages 6-12 can sign up for a 15-minute session to practice reading aloud to Ruger on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month. Space is limited, and registration is required.<\/p>\n

It’s “SOCKTOBER” at the Library!<\/em> – Make a Difference! – Not everyone can open a drawer each morning and choose a little thing such as a pair of warm socks to start their day, but some of us can, and we want to share this soul warming experience with soles of those who cannot. One clothing item for those in need is new socks, but people very rarely ever donate new socks to the less fortunate. During the month of October, the Library will be collecting new socks for children and adults that will then be donated to local charities. Please join us in a simple and meaningful way to help families and friends who are in need this winter.<\/p>\n

Connections <\/em>– Patrons needing help with OverDrive\/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Library Closure<\/em> – The Library will be closing at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday October 31. The drop box on the Library porch will be available for returns throughout this closure.<\/p>\n
