{"id":771,"date":"2018-05-03T20:59:43","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T00:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/?p=771"},"modified":"2018-05-03T20:59:43","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T00:59:43","slug":"latest-news-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/newindy\/?p=771","title":{"rendered":"Latest News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Eat Healthy Eat Local Festival is May 12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2018 Eat Healthy Eat Local Festival will take place on May 12, and it will be located in beautiful downtown St. Johns<\/p>\n<p>Six city streets and one parking lot will be filled with local vendors specializing in healthy food, natural remedies, nutrition, and physical\/mental wellness.<\/p>\n<p>The EHEL Festival is a place where the community can meet and shop local farms, health food stores, handmade items  like soaps\/oils, lip balms, cleaning and self-care products, massage therapists, nutritionists, chiropractors, wellness spas while enjoying healthy selections from Michigan-Made food trucks.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free to the public!<\/p>\n<p>******<\/p>\n<p><em>American Legion Auxiliary 1st Annual Bloody Mary Contest<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The St. Johns American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 153 is hosting their first annual Bloody Mary Contest to raise awareness and funds to help support their mission.<\/p>\n<p>Please join them on May 12 from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. to sample and vote for the best Bloody Mary in St. Johns. The event will be held at the American Legion hall, Edwin T. Stiles Post #153 110 E. Walker Street in Saint Johns.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>May 12 Springtime Community Festival for Everyone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, May 12 there is an event in St. Johns that has something for everyone in the family. The 16th Annual Chamber Springtime Community Festival will be held at the CC RESA Building across from McDonalds and Burger King and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>For mom and dad there are craft vendors to visit between 9 a.m. &#8211; 3 p.m. selling everything from wood crafts to jewelry, quilts, dog blankets, hair accessories, aprons and vendors selling products like Tupperware, It Works, and LuLaRoe. And you will have the opportunity to visit with store front businesses and non-profits like Becks Propane, Ferralls Tree Trimming and Removal and Hazel Findlay to name a few.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/truck.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"272\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-774\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kids of all ages will enjoy the Touch-a-Truck from 9 a.m. &#8211; 3 p.m. where there will be fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and a race car. Throughout the entire day kids can make free crafts inside the RESA Building.<\/p>\n<p>Come around lunch time and you can purchase lunch from the Clinton County Senior Center. They will have Sloppy Joes, Nachos and Hotdogs. They will also have a Bake Sale throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>New this year from 12-3 p.m. will be a Car Cruise In. The first 50 registrants ($5 fee) will receive a dash plaque and goodie bag.<\/p>\n<p>The first 50 adults arriving at 9 a.m. will receive a goodie bag, and an additional 50 goodie bags will be given out at 1 p.m. Dozens of prizes will be given out in a free raffle throughout the day and there will also be a special drawing for kids prizes. An additional drawing will take place at 3 p.m. Every time you make a purchase from a vendor between 1 &#8211; 2:30 p.m. you will be entered into this special drawing. Clinton Avenue will be alive with a combination of downtown businesses and area artisans offering locally made goods.<\/p>\n<p>This event is being held in conjunction with the popular Eat Healthy, Eat Local Festival put on by Oh MI Organics.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/artsupplies.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"286\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-514\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Clinton County Arts Council will also be hosting a Plein Air event. Please do not place items to the curb earlier then Saturday, May 5, 2018 but must be placed to the curb by 6 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Items placed after the contractor has passed through will not be picked up. This is for City residents only whom live in a one to five unit dwelling. City police will be monitoring non-city resident trash dumping. All violators will be prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p>Do put out:<br \/>\nAppliances (Appliances containing any food will not be picked up. Doors must be removed from refrigerator or freezer unit); Electronics (T.V.&#8217;s, VCR&#8217;s, computer equipment); Lawn Mowers (must be drained of fuel and oil); Hub Caps<br \/>\nCopper and Brass tubing and wire; Large toys; Bicycles; Furniture (indoor and outdoor) and mattresses; Scrap Metal (bed frames, aluminum lawn chairs, file cabinets, etc.); Odd pieces of lumber under 4 ft. long (please bundle); Carpeting (bundles less then 6 ft. long)<\/p>\n<p>Please bag, box, or bundle your items when possible. Limit bags, boxes or bundles to no more than 50 pounds in weight.<\/p>\n<p>Do <strong>not<\/strong> put out:<br \/>\nHousehold trash or recyclables (cans, bottles, etc.); Liquids or hazardous waste; Automobile components; Yard waste including tree stumps; Batteries (lead acid or alkaline batteries can be recycled at City Offices or Bee&#8217;s Sports, 2138 S. Also please look for further information with your water\/sewer bill which will be mailed in April.<\/p>\n<p>******<\/p>\n<p>The City of St. Johns will be collecting used car and light truck tires from City residents on Monday, May 14, 2018. Tires must be placed by the curb by 7 am. Each household is limited to 8 tires. Tires must be removed from the rims. Children must be 4 years old on or before December 1st to be eligible for GSRP, if your child is 5 years old by September 1st they are not eligible for these programs.<\/p>\n<p>Children who turn age 4 on or before September 1st will be prioritized for enrollment.
