MMDHD reports first Clinton County COVID-19 death <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Mid-Michigan District Health Department (MMDHD) is reporting its first death of a Clinton County resident from COVID-19. The individual was an elderly female with serious underlying health conditions. She was hospitalized at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and passed away on March 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of MMDHD, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family. This is a tragic loss of life and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time,\u201d said MMDHD Health Officer Marcus Cheatham.<\/p>\n

Currently, MMDHD has a total of 44 positive COVID-19 cases in its jurisdiction: 31 in Clinton County, 10 in Montcalm County and 3 in Gratiot County.<\/p>\n

Residents are urged to continue prevention efforts to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Wash hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds, cover you nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and avoid touching your face. Continue to \u201cStay home, stay safe\u201d and venture out only if it is absolutely necessary to get prescriptions, food or other essential services. If you must go out, stay at least 6 feet away from others.<\/p>\n

Everyone should take these precautions and assume potential exposure in public places.<\/p>\n

Mid-Michigan District Health Department (MMDHD) has been informed of the first positive COVID-19 case in a Gratiot County<\/em> resident.<\/p>\n

March 26<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) successfully secured $600,000 from the MEDC\u2019s Small Business Relief Program<\/em> to issue 60 $10,000 grants to small businesses across Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties that are suffering financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The grant application for these funds is now open and can be accessed from LEAP\u2019s website at www.purelansing.com\/businessrelief<\/font><\/a>. The application will be open until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2020.<\/p>\n

St. Johns Fire Department says permits for open burning will be suspended<\/em> across the state. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued the order Monday, aimed at further protecting public health and safety.<\/p>\n

Because firefighters often work closely together on scene and when traveling to and from incident locations, the suspension of burn permits also will help protect first responders and fire fighters from infection by the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The Clinton County Sheriff says, “Do not call 911 to report a possible violation of the Executive Order<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

The Voice for Clinton County’s Children continues to serve Clinton County. Their Superhero Staff remain working and committed to protecting children. With the Governor’s Executive Order to Stay Home and Stay Safe, here are a few updates for you.<\/p>\n

– All staff are working remotiely; we ARE available and providing services to Clinton County Children who have experienced neglect, physical abuse, and\/or sexual assault.<\/p>\n

– Our CAC remains open for Emergent Forensic Interviews with appropriate safety precautions. For a medical exam related to an alleged sexual assault, please contact CAC staff or your medical doctor PRIOR to going to an Emergency Room. We are happy to assist in coordinating this in a safe manner.<\/p>\n

– Counseling sessions will not be in person and our counselor remains available to support kiddos and families.<\/p>\n

– CASA Volunteer Advocates are remaining in contact with their appointed kiddos via technology.<\/p>\n

– We have rescheduled our Superhero 5K (scheduled for April 5) to Saturday, September 26.<\/p>\n

– In our offices we have implemented ways to control costs during these uncertain times such as suspending our trash, internet, and shredding services and lowering thermostats.<\/p>\n

– Our regular Board of Directors Meeting will occur via technology.<\/p>\n

Our agency remains here to support our community–like many, how we are doing this may look a little different but we are here.<\/p>\n
