Wilson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wilson_ida.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8777\" \/>Ida M. Wilson age 90 passed away at Sparrow Hospital on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.  Ida was born on January 15, 1930 in Owosso, MI.  She graduated from Laingsburg High School and was married to Francis E. Wilson who survives her.<\/p>\n<p>She loved gardening and was a member of the garden club, traveling and enjoying winters in Arizona and Florida, square dancing and doing ceramics.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors besides her husband are sons Thomas (Raenell) Wilson and Dennis (Krys) Wilson.  6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.  She has one sister, Virginia Woodbury.<\/p>\n<p>The family will receive friends and family at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/font><\/a> on Saturday, June 13, 2020, 1 \u2013 3 P.M. with services at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Brendan Holmquist officiating.<\/p>\n<p>Memorials may be made to Grove Bible Church, 6980 E. Price Rd., St. Johns, MI 48879.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Evelyn Esther Hoover<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/hoover_evelyn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8740\" \/>Evelyn Esther Hoover, 95, of St. Johns, MI, peacefully entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on her 70th Wedding Anniversary, Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at her home surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes &#8211; Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Roy T. Hoover and Pastor Scott Seelhoff officiating.  Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn was born in Boyd, WI on August 29, 1924, the daughter of George N. and Sophia (Komers) Truax. In 1942, Evelyn graduated from high school in Highland Park, IL, and entered the Cadet Corps where she later earned her RN degree. Throughout the years, she nursed at multiple places.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn met Roy T. Hoover at the Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute in St. Louis, MO. They were married on June 10, 1950 at First Baptist Church in Waukegan, IL. Together they spent the rest of their lives serving the Lord as missionaries in the Philippines, Dominica, Hawaii, and in pastorates in Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and Michigan. She played the piano in the church until she was 95 years old. They were members of the Ovid Bible Church.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn was faithful to read her Bible and pray for others, especially her family. She loved crossword puzzles, and reading books. She was a great letter writer and greatly enjoyed receiving cards and letters. She was a homemaker and had a gift of making a home in the many places they lived. Evelyn deeply loved her family.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn is survived by her husband of 70 years Roy, 3 children: Christy (Al) Ross of Albion, Tim (Diane) Hoover of Edgewood, IA, and Linda (John) Brooke of St. Johns; daughter-in-law Vicki Hoover of Peosta, IA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Joey (Jessie) Hoover, Eric Brundage, Ben (Erin) Hoover, Rachel (Chad) Green, Sarah (Gabe) Rookus, Matt (Suzy) Hoover, Timmy (Jodi) Hoover, Stephanie Hoover, Lance (Brandy) Lake, Adam (Kayla) Lake, Amy (Dan) Crockett, Mandy Brooke, Tami (Jason) Hughes, and Traci Brooke; 31 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and very special nieces and nephews.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Ruth, son Mark, granddaughter Cleta Brundage, and 2 sisters: Valda Drake, and Grizzella &#8220;Billy&#8221; Neill.<\/p>\n<p>Memorials may be made to Ethnos 360 for granddaughter Tami (Jason) Hughes, missionaries in PNG &#8211; 312 West First Street, Sanford, FL 32771-1231. Thurlow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Thurlow_Gayle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8736\" \/>Gayle E. Thurlow, 91, died peacefully at the home of a family member on June 9, 2020.  He was born August 29, 1928 in Gladwin, MI the son of Guy and Veda (Dick) Thurlow.  Gayle graduated from Gladwin High School in 1947 and served in the United States Army from 1950-1957 achieving the rank of Sergeant.  During his time in the Army, he was an expert rifleman and took up the sport of boxing.  He eventually became a Golden Gloves State Champion.<\/p>\n<p>On September 26, 1953 he married the love of his life, Anne Linthicum, and they resided happily together on a farm in DeWitt, MI.   Gayle worked for the State of Michigan, Department of Agriculture for 27 years before retiring in 1984.  Gayle was a member of the Michigan Harness Horseman\u2019s Association and the United States Trotting Association for many years.  He was a horseman his whole life, and breaking colts was his specialty.   Gayle enjoyed racing his horses and hunting.  He was an elaborate story-teller, and his funny stories (mostly factual!) will be dearly missed by many.<\/p>\n<p>Surviving are three daughters, Kathy Lowell (Earl Barks Jr.), Jeanne Beachnaw and Cindy (Eric) Rase; one son, Jim (Teresa) Thurlow; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and two sisters, Joyce Fortuna and Connie Brant.  Gayle was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, in 2010.  He was also predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Elwood, James, and Kenneth, and his grandson, Lucas Beachnaw.<\/p>\n<p>Following Gayle\u2019s wishes cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer\u2019s Association.  The family was assisted with these arrangements by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/font><\/a>, St. Johns.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Michael John Carmack<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/carmack_mike.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8731\" \/>Michael John Carmack passed away suddenly on May 29, 2020 from heart failure. He was born on August 15, 1971 in Aurora, Colorado to John and Diana (Jones) Carmack. His father was a Navy Corpsman so he lived in California and North Dakota during his early childhood. The family settled in Michigan for a few years, then moved to Phoenix, Arizona. They ended up in the Seattle, Washington area where Mike graduated from Juanita High School.<\/p>\n<p>He started working at an early age, delivering newspapers. His first real job as a teenager was at McDonald&#8217;s where he worked up the ladder to become the Trainer at his location. He learned quickly how to provide top notch customer service with efficiency, something that stood him in good stead all through his work life.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually Mike moved back to Michigan and worked at installing gutters until he got a position changing oil at a Valvoline store. Again, he quickly moved upward from Oil Changer to Assistant Store Manager, and then to Store Manager. He coached many younger people along the way about showing up to work on time, putting in your best effort during the day, and how to provide top notch customer service. His store team did so well that they became a &#8220;million dollar&#8221; store two years in a row which was a source of pride for him and his team.<\/p>\n<p>Mike married Cari Gonzalez on August 16, 2003 but they parted ways in 2014. He moved on from Valvoline, enhanced his computer skills, and worked for Liquid Web in Lansing for a number of years.<\/p>\n<p>Mike leaves behind: his mother, Diana (Robert) DeGraw, Kirkland, WA; a brother, Daniel Carmack, Lansing, MI; a niece, Rebecca, Burien, WA; a grand-nephew; his grandmother, Virginia Jones, St. Johns, MI; his uncles: Eugene (Barb) Jones, St. Johns, MI; Richard (Stephanie) Jones, Mukilteo, WA; Robert (Kathleen) Jones, Las Vegas, NV; Richard Carmack, Indianapolis, IN; as well as numerous cousins. Mike was predeceased by his father, John Carmack (2000); baby sister, Mary Elizabeth (1973); and his grandparents, Orin and Ethel Carmack as well as John L. Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Cremation has occurred and interment will eventually occur at Lowe Cemetery near St. Johns, MI. Due to the pandemic, a small family remembrance event will be scheduled at a later date.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Dessie I. Spear<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dessie I. Spear age 90 passed away on June 7, 2020.  She was born on December 4, 1929 the daughter of Michael C. and Clara A(Burgess) Cooper.  Dessie was a homemaker and loved being outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>She is survived by sons Dennis (Carol) Wright, Douglas Wright and Barry Wright.<\/p>\n<p>Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no services.  Arrangements by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keckcolemanfh.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><font color=\"#0000CC\">Keck-Coleman Funeral Home<\/font><\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Eugene Herman Thelen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stjindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/thelen_eugene2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"91\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8727\" \/>Eugene Herman &#8220;Gene&#8221; Thelen, age 86, of Fowler, MI, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020, at his home.<\/p>\n<p>A Graveside Service will be held at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 10:30 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and also on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 5-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes &#8211; Goerge Chapel, Fowler.<\/p>\n<p>Eugene was born in Westphalia, MI on April 9, 1934, the son of Edward and Clotilda (Miller) Thelen. Gene married Margaret Ulrich on September 8, 1956 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler. Eugene was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and also of the K of C. He was in the National Guard for 8 years and an Affiliate with the VFW Post #3733.<\/p>\n<p>Gene had a love for music. He started his musical career at the age of 10 playing trumpet with Little Louie&#8217;s orchestra. A few years later, he continued his 70 year musical career with the Mello Tones playing trumpet and guitar. He loved watching people dance while enjoying the music they played.<\/p>\n<p>He drove school bus for Fowler Public Schools for many years and was also a special education teacher\u2019s aide. Gene was a lifelong farmer, an extremely hard worker, many times working two jobs to provide for his family.<\/p>\n<p>His family includes his wife Margaret Thelen; sons: Jim Thelen, Jeff Thelen, Doug (LeeAnn) Thelen, Glen (Paula) Thelen; daughters: Laurie (Adam) Platte, Lynn (Joe) Cook, Mary Beth (Mark) Smith; 20 grandchildren and 5 great -grandchildren, brother Ken (Char) Thelen; sister-in-law Josephine Thelen and brother-in-law Roman Feldpausch.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son Dean, grandsons: Ben and Zachary, sisters: Marina, Julie (Norbert), Dolores (Dick), Evelyn (Eugene), Ermaline (Ed), and brothers: Melvin (Mary), Leonard (Rose), Louis (Monica) and Clem (Josephine).<\/p>\n<p>     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fowler VFW Post 3733, St. Jude Children&#8217;s Hospital or to the wishes of the family.
