Fun Family Fridays

Follow us to the first Fun Family Friday in downtown St. Johns on June 18, 2010, from 6-8pm. This is the first of 11 Fun Family Fridays being held through August 27, coordinated by the Clinton County Arts Council. Every Friday June 18 – August 27, Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum will be open; participating businesses will be open throughout town; and family activities will be held between 6:00 and 7:00 pm by the depot, along with live music in the gazebo from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. While you are there, plan to see the model trains and tour the large railcars at the depot.

The “Wheel Deal” children’s parade kicks off the festivities on June 18. Beginning at 6:00 pm, accompanied by a police car with flashing lights, the parade will travel down Clinton Avenue from State Street to Railroad Street. Bring your decorated bicycles, tricycles, scooters, strollers, or any other wheeled, non-motorized means of transportation and join in the Wheel Deal Parade to help kick off this first Fun Family Friday. Adults are welcome to ride along with their kids.
Two brand new bikes will be given away at the end of the evening. Parade participants are asked to register when we gather in the parking lot behind Cindy’s Ice Cream shop before the parade, starting at 5:30. All children of elementary school age, those entering kindergarten through those entering sixth grade, who ride in the Wheel Deal Parade should be especially sure to register when they arrive at the parking lot because this will enter them into a drawing for one of the two brand new bikes that will be given away at 7:45pm at the depot. These bikes were generously donated by Turning Point Youth Center to start off Fun Family Fridays in grand style.
Once all are down at the depot, activities will include a bike challenge course and some train-related games up till 7:00 pm. The music from 7-8 pm will be performed by Side Kicks. Bill Brown of St. Johns and Harvey Evans of Greenville will bring their West Michigan Country Hall of Fame-winning musical style to the gazebo for your listening pleasure! Plan to bring your folding chairs or spread a blanket on the lawn.
Volunteers for this and future Fun Family Fridays are always welcome. Come check out the festivities and watch for information on the upcoming Friday events. If you want to join in the fun, volunteer to help by calling 224-6134 or 224-1827.
This summer the place to be is downtown St. Johns for Fun Family Fridays. Don’t miss it.
