Penelope (Penny) Ann Malesky
Penelope (Penny) Ann Malesky passed away, May 27, 2013 at the age of 69. Born February 28, 1944 in Detroit, she was the daughter of Robert and Charlotte (Walsh) Bennett. Penny married Robert Malesky on March 24, 1966 in Detroit, Michigan and he survives her.
Penny’s family includes her husband, Dr. Robert Malesky; children, Dana Malesky (Scott) Flegler of DeWitt, Sara (Shane) Ladwein of Midland, Charlotte (Shaun) Schneider of St. Johns; grandchildren, Makayla and Nicholas Flegler, Brendan, Thomas and Henry Ladwein, Vivian, Bennett and Penelope Schneider; her brother, Clyde (Sonia) Bennett of Rochester, MI; her sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Dudley (Wally Presten) and JorJan (Ken) Allen; cousins, Jim (Nancy) Booker, Marvin (Patti) Booker and Bill (Kathy) Booker; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Charlotte Bennett and her in laws, George and Doris Malesky.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2013 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns, with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating.
A Celebration of Life for Penny Malesky will follow the memorial service at 4:30 p.m., at the Banquet & Conference Center of DeWitt, 1120 Commerce Drive, DeWitt, MI 48820. www.bccdewitt.com. Cocktails and appetizers will be served at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Salvation Army.

Daniel J. Cunningham
Daniel J. Cunningham, age 57, of DeWitt, MI died Saturday, May 25, 2013. Born June 11, 1955 to James and Joyce (Kirvan) Cunningham, Daniel was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston, MI.
Daniel is survived by his mother, Joyce Stoddard; siblings, Diane Cunningham, Barbara (John) Sougstad, Colleen (Jon) Riley, Clarence Stoddard, Beverly (Mark) Hoyler, Sharon (Ross) Harlow, Tim Stoddard, aunt, Linda Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Cunningham; step-father, Clarence Stoddard; aunt, Rita Huhn; uncles, Terry and Raymond Cunningham; grandparents, Harold and Winnie Cunningham and Bruce and Millie Kirvan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday May 31, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 342 S. Washington St., Hubbardston, MI 48845. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday May 30, 2013 from 5-8 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7 PM at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler, MI. Richard Samuel Cole
Dick S. Cole age 66 of Laingsburg passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Lansing.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 3:30 P.M. at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Laingsburg Chapel with Rev. Fr. Duaine H. Pamment officiating. Family will greet friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Dick was born on April 25, 1947 in Lansing, the son of Arza and Edith (Bailor) Cole. On January 8, 1967 he married Linda Oliver in Milan, TN. Dick was retired from GM where he was a Inspector Supervisor was a salesman for Sundance in St. Johns and worked at Pine Hills Golf Course in Laingsburg.
He is survived by his wife Linda, one daughter, Renee (Barry) Beck, two grandchildren Justin and Haley Beck, brother, Leon (Ruth Ann)Cole and sister, Carolyn (Bob) Ingersol, step-mother Eilene and godson Wayne Cole. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.


John Szarka
John Szarka passed away, May 22, 2013 at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing. He was born July 8, 1925 in Bennington Twp., Michigan to Jasper and Angela Szarka. John grew up in Ovid, moving to Laingsburg in 1965, and the last few years in Lansing and then at Hazel Findlay in St. Johns. He was a Tool and Die maker for many years.
John is survived by his children: Michael (Ronda) Szarka, Rosanne (Gene) Parker, Martin Szarka, Daniel (Rosemary) Szarka, Eva Britten, Mary (Steve) Rich, and Bruce (Marlene) Szarka; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Genevieve Szarka, and all of his siblings.
There will be a memorial service held 4:30 p.m. Tuesday May 28, 2013 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial visitation hours will be Tuesday 10:00-12:00 p.m. and 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Amputee Coalition, 900 East Hill Ave., Suite 290, Knoxville, TN 37915-2566.


Elmer “Red” Wesley Levering

Elmer “Red” Wesley Levering , 71, of St. Johns, retired General Motors employee, died Tuesday May 21, 2013
Funeral sevices will be held on Friday May 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Laingsburg Chapel with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Family will greet friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Laingsburg Cemetery.
Elmer was born on October 28, 1941 in Eaton Rapids, the son of LaVerne and Beatrice (Kikendall) Holmes. He was a 1961 graduate of Laingsburg High School and served in the U.S. Marine from 1961- 1964. On September 12, 1964 he married Mary Perry in Laingsburg. He was retired from General Motors in Lansing.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 48 years Mary, four children; Laura (Jeffrey)Barrett of Potterville, Donna (Bruce) Rutter of St. Johns, Wesley (April) Levering of Eaton Rapids and Marguerite Perrin of Battle Creek, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and one sister Marguerite (Herb) McCarrick of Higgins Lake. He was predeceased by sister Donna Bohnett and brother Larry Holmes.
