For the first time in years a carnival will be at the St. Johns Mint Festival. It will be located on the ball diamond and grass just off Sickles Street before you enter the County Fairgrounds.
They will have a sneak peek opening on Thursday, August 12 from 5-10 pm and then will be open all hours of the festival (Fri, Aug 13: 2-8 pm, Sat, Aug 14: 10 am – 7 pm and Sun, Aug 15: 10 am – 5 pm). If the crowds are still good when the festival closes on Friday and Saturday the carnival will stay open until 10 pm.
Wrist bands at the gate will be $15 for the day. If you would like to save a little money, stop by the Chamber office in the CC RESA Building (across from McDonalds) and get yours for only $12 each.
Another new event for this year is Gamefest. On Sat and Sun, Aug 14 and 15 from 1-4 pm computer game stations will be set up in the pavilion in the Flea Market area (the northwest corner in the city park). Young adults can come and show their skills of today’s most popular computer games.
The Carnival and Gamefest are just two events for kids however. There will also be inflatables, kiddie train rides, pony rides, miniature golf, petting zoo and the festival’s own Kids World and Kids Day that offer carnival type games and contests for .25 and lots of prizes.
And, you won’t want to forget to try the Laser Tag. Mobile Laser Kombat will be on the west school property just before you enter the county fairgrounds. Kids young and old will want to try their skill at this one.
If after all the activity you just need a few minutes to sit down, check out the Classic K-9 Dog Shows. There will be seven ½ hour shows during the weekend (Fri, Aug 13: 2:30 and 5;00 pm; Sat, Aug 14: 12:00, 3:00 and 6:00 pm; and Sun, Aug 15: 11:30 am and 2:30 pm) on the High School football field. Because the bleachers on the home side have been taken out, all shows will be viewed from the bleachers on the east side of the field.
