Janet Kloeckner Halfmann, who grew up in rural St. Johns, is celebrating the launch of her new children’s book, “Home in the Cave,” with two public events for all ages.
Festivities begin with a Book Launch Party Saturday, February 25, 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, at Clinton County Council of the Arts Art Gallery, 215 N. Clinton Ave. in downtown St. Johns. The party will include story times, refreshments, book selling and signing, and more.

The second event is a “Home in the Cave” story time as part of “Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day” Saturday, March 3, 1 to 4 pm, at Schuler Books, 1982 Grand River Ave, Okemos. The event will include a costumed “Cat in the Hat” character and story time, plus refreshments.
“Home in the Cave,” released February 10 by Sylvan Dell Publishing and illustrated by Shennen Bersani, is a story of friendship, caring, growing up, and the fascinating life in a cave. Baby Bat loves his cave home and never wants to leave it. While practicing flapping his wings one night, he falls, and Pluribus Packrat rescues him. They then explore the deepest, darkest corners of the cave where they meet amazing animals—animals that don’t need eyes to see or colors to hide from enemies. Baby Bat learns how important bats are to the cave habitat and how other cave-living critters rely on them for their food. Will Baby Bat finally venture out of the cave to help the other animals?
