Preparing For The Big Event

Decorating for Prom
by Maralyn Fink

Traveling to Ithaca last Friday morning, camera ready to go, I arrived at the Town and Country Banquet Center, to observe and capture the beginning of preparation, also known as decorating, of the Senior Prom held the following evening.
Greeted by Mr. Lund the Academic Leader of the group and his team of Juniors ready to start the decorating, I observed a group of students ready to work as a team. Where should this go, what do I do with this, was the buzz being heard.
This years theme is “Jungle,” and I noticed the jungle-like animals ready to help with this project. Tigers, Lions, and Snow Leopards were cute as could be. Next I noticed greenery, animal print balloons, butterflies, everything you would find in the “Jungle” minus snakes, thank you.
Moving into the dance hall, the tables were set with table cloths, centerpieces in place, being a stuffed jungle animal and an animal print glow stick. There were snacks, a veggie tray and fruit packs laid out for the couples to enjoy.
The Prom Committee has 8 members and Mr. Lund, Advisor who start planning before spring break. Juniors always put the prom on for the seniors. A lot of thought and work go into this. There is a dress code in place for the event. Chaperones are Administration, Principles, and Faculty.
Asking the decorating committee what they want to see most out of this prom as a whole is, they would like everyone to have a good time and be excited, and they also hope that their reaction to the theme of “Jungle” was exciting for them.
Thank you team for letting me join you for decorating, job well done!
