After a three-day trip from Texas, the new Press Box for the stadium has arrived. Installation was scheduled for Monday.
It seems like the landscape around St. Johns High School changes in the blink of an eye – a new wall at the high school one day, a press box and light poles at the football field the next, who knows what tomorrow?
Favorable weather conditions throughout much of March and April have kept work crews very, very busy and that’s good news for the construction project at St. Johns Public Schools. Following is a brief update on various aspects of the project.
St. Johns High School
Phase 2 – Academic wing addition
The exterior walls are up and work is in progress on the interior, masonry partition walls; plumbing and electrical work is ongoing; construction underway on roofing. The next part of new construction on the academic wing will begin in June after school dismisses for the summer and the north pod is demolished.
Phase 3 – Sitework
Work has begun and will continue through the summer on the geothermal slinky loop installation, located on the east side of the high school site. Work for the new primary electrical feeders has begun, and underground work is complete to the north side of the north pod. The site storm sewer has been connected from the south retention pond to the football field area; new water main service is complete from the east entrance on Sickles Street to the south side of the building, near the maintenance barn; new primary electrical has been installed to the Rotary/Concession building, and previous gas service to the Rotary/Concession building has been removed.
Phase 3 – Athletic addition and building renovations
The building pad is complete for the new athletic addition and foundation work is in progress. Renovation of the industrial arts wing and administration area begins this summer. Construction on the new addition will continue throughout the year with an estimated completion date of August, 2013.
Phase 4 – Football Complex
The site utility/underground work is complete. Interior work is ongoing at the Rotary/Concession building. The team room building is nearing completion. Work continues on erection of the “home side” grandstands and press box; ticket booths are nearing completion; irrigation and drainage work is completed at the football field, and sod is scheduled for installation in May. The field goalpost foundations are complete, and light poles and fixtures on the field are installed. Work is in progress on site sidewalks.
St. Johns Middle School
Work is set to begin in June on renovations and site improvements at the middle school. The project includes new roofing, exterior brick restoration, concrete replacement at the front entry, two new drinking fountains, auditeria carpet and ceiling tile replacement, one exterior door replacement, one new door installation at the stage area, new mechanical louvers in the Media Center and an exterior canopy.
