Flim-Flam Man, Inge and Cash, and Short Thoughts
by Barry Blauer
I watched and enjoyed the movie, “The Flim-Flam Man,” starring George C. Scott. I’m currently watching the modern day flim-flam man, Barack Oblama, but I’m not enjoying it.
The definition of flim-flam is: A deception; a swindle
On the first anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s assassination Oblama flew to Afghanistan to make his victory tour. A year ago Oblama said after bin Laden’s death that he wouldn’t “spike the football.” Well, what’s he doing now? What a shameless move on his part but what else has he got to run on except bailing GM out but that hasn’t been a victory because they still owe us billions of dollars we’ll never see.
Can you say, Solyndra?

My favorite ball player on the Detroit Tigers was Brandon Inge. I say was because he’s been released and has since signed with the Oakland Athletics. I hope he bats .300 and wins the gold glove for them but if he doesn’t I still like him and his character.
Back in the 1960s my favorite Tiger was “Stormin’ Norman” Cash. They got him in a trade with Cleveland and he won the batting crown his first full year with them. One year the team played a game against notable fireballer, Nolan Ryan, and nobody was hitting him. Norm went up to the plate with a table leg in his hands. He didn’t get to use it because the home plate umpire made him get a bat. Purportedly Norm told the ump, “What difference does it make, I’m not going to hit him anyway.”
I guess I just like characters.
Sadly, Norm drowned in 1986 and didn’t get a chance to live out his “Golden Years.”

It used to be that live and let live was a good motto. Now we find more and more people having a problem with some of us or at the extreme, all of us. How can you possibly get along in life that way?
They’ve gone after the smokers, fat people, and anything religious on government property to name a few. There are people who want us to put a wind turbine in our backyard rather than have a coal fired power plant on the energy grid but what happens when the wind dies down. Some insist we go to solar energy but if you live in a northern state that gets limited sunshine I hope you don’t mind cold nights shivering in bed. That’s what other people would want you to do.
When will they get it, Michigan is not Arizona.
With new drilling technologies they say we’re sitting on more gas and oil than the entire Middle East has but somebody doesn’t want us to recover it. They prefer buying it from the Middle East and fund the terrorism that goes on there and around the World.

Short Thoughts:
A bald man without a hat on is the first one to know when it starts raining.
Who’s bright idea was it to name the two intrastate highways in the Lansing area I-96 and I-69? The two highways even intertwine west of town.
Phil Henry has what can only be described as the worst talk show on radio. His “co-host” is a recovering child molester . . . if there is such a thing.
Next Saturday is Spring Cleanup when we get a chance to get rid of discarded things from the garage and the basement. The “Pickers” will come through looking for metal, wood to burn, old mowers, furniture, etc. I like to call them early Christmas shoppers. Some of the stuff they pick up is used for their arts & crafts hobbies. Old handsaws or saw blades are painted with a nice outdoor scene and sold at craft sales.
Note to the pickers, please don’t leave a mess.
Until the next time . . .
