July 9 at SJ Concert in the Park
Hot-pickin’ by a talented foursome is bringing great tunes from the songbooks of traditional American music when The String Doctors play July 9 at the St. Johns City Park Performance Shell in the weekly Concert in the Park summer music series. There’s no admission for the show that begins at 7 p.m.; rain or shine.

The String Doctors feature Michigan mainstays Joel Mabus and Ray Kamalay, plus the superb hot fiddle of Peter Knupfer and the silky upright bass of Dave Rosin.
Mabus is a singer-songwriter of major repute who has recorded 20 solo albums of original and traditional music since his career began in the 1970s. Originally from southern Illinois, he played mandolin as a young boy and quickly added banjo, guitar and fiddle. He was drawn to the tunes of the Carter Family, Bill Monroe and Jimmie Rodgers, and also absorbed the blues and spiritual music that is part of the culture in his old stomping grounds along the Mississippi River .
Kamalay, who sings and plays guitar, has worked with numerous artists around Michigan for many years and continues to record and play live shows around the Midwest.
Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the city of St. Johns, with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club staff a concession stand that offers light refreshments.
