Shelter to stay in St. Johns
by Maralyn Fink, Bennie and Jessie
Some weeks ago I wrote an article on Clinton County Animal Control and the consideration of the County Board of Commissioners joining with Capital Area Humane Society for placement of our animals that were picked up by the county. At the time of the meeting that I attended, things were not looking good. I have waited anxiously for some word that they would decide to keep the shelter here in St Johns because I felt that it would be best for all concerned.
On Tuesday January 29, 2013 I received word that at the County Board of Commissioners meeting it was decided to keep the shelter here in St Johns. Negotiations between both parties were strong, but in the end an agreement could not be made.
Elation is the only word I can use as I was jumping up and down thinking of all the pets that cross through those doors and how it would be better for everyone including our furry friends.
On behalf of myself and all furry friends, I want to send a big thank you to the County Board of Commissioners and anyone who voiced an opinion to keep our shelter here in St Johns.
We have a great team of Animal Control officers that are very kind to these animals who are under stress in the position they are in, and I am very appreciative of them as well.
In closing please keep your pets safe and know where they are so that they do not have to be picked up. But most important, please have an identification tag or micro-chip where you can be contacted if they do escape.
