Clinton County Middle Schools’ First Annual Art Challenge

Clinton County’s Answer to ARTPRIZE
The Clinton County Arts Council is sponsoring the First Annual Art Challenge of the County’s middle schools. The 2013 Challenge includes middle schools located in Bath, DeWitt, Fowler, and the Ovid/Elsie areas. This year’s theme – Superheroes was selected by the schools’ art teachers.
Each school is using this theme to create a large mural. The murals will be displayed at various festivals taking place this summer throughout the County. At the festivals, the public will be invited to vote on their favorite mural. These votes will be tallied and a People’s Choice Award of $300 will be presented to the winning school’s art program.
In addition to the People’s Choice Award, there will be a 1st Place ($300), 2nd Place ($150), and a 3rd Place ($75) Award presented to the winning the schools’ art programs based upon the decision of a panel of local art experts. Funding for the Art Challenge is made possible from a grant that the Arts Council has received through the Michigan Council for Art and Cultural Affairs, as well as support from local businesses, organizations and Arts Council members.
The Clinton County Arts Council, based in St. Johns, has supported the arts in mid-Michigan since 1981. The Council maintains an art gallery; a railroad museum, complete with actual antique railroad cars; a theater production company; Concerts in the Park during the summer and a community chorale group.
