New season at the Art Gallery

Works in Forged Steel
The weather may not be cooperating, but spring is in the air at Clinton County Arts Council’s Gallery and events and activities at the location reflect the new season.
The customary first Sunday of the month event for May is not only the first Sunday but also the first day of the new month and a particularly interesting attraction will be featured.
Douglas Thayer, an artist who works with forged steel, will display some of his works along with discussions of how they were created. The intricate and interesting items include candlesticks and napkin rings on a smaller scale, while larger examples include tables, vessels, boxes and fireplace sets.
Thayer’s visit is sponsored by Dr. Robert and Jan Myers and will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 1. Refreshments will be served.

Artist Mary Ellen Darnell discusses the process of Ukranian Egg Decorating to a gathering of ladies at Clinton Commons. Observing the display are, from left, Lucille Kowalski, Josephine Jackson, Leora Rumbaugh and LeHa Nichols.
Meanwhile, residents of Clinton Commons were treated to a recent visit by Mary Ellen Darnell who discussed the delicate art of Ukranian egg decorating. Ms Darnell has shown her creations at the Gallery and samples of her works will be on display during the first Sunday event.
These and the many other activities of the Arts Council are made possible through a cooperative funding base involving membership dues, local contributions and support from the partnership of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
