Awards Night for Art Challenge

October 3
Throughout the summer, art students from Bath, DeWitt, Fowler and Ovid/Elsie middle schools, displayed original banners depicting their “Superhero(s)” at County festivals and special events. The participation was part of Clinton County Arts Council’s Art Challenge and the efforts by students from those schools will be recognized at a special program Thursday October 3 at the Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) offices located at Southpoint Mall in St. Johns.
At the various events where the original banners were displayed, the public was invited to vote for a favorite. Students from the school receiving the most votes will be presented the “People’s Choice Award” during the October 3 event. That recognition and other awards for the banners’ designs and materials total over $1,600.00 which will be given to the school’s art programs during the 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ceremony.
Funding for the Art Challenge is made possible from a grant through the Michigan Council for Art and Cultural Affairs, as well as support from local businesses, organizations and Arts Council members.
The Clinton County Arts Council, based in St. Johns, has supported the arts in mid-Michigan since 1981. The Council maintains an art gallery, a railroad museum complete with actual antique railroad cars, a theater production company, summertime Concerts in the Park and a community choral group.
