A Look Back

Rehmann’s in the 1930s
by Barry Bauer

The photographer cast a giant shadow while taking a picture of two shoppers in downtown St. Johns. The female shopper may well be carrying a sack of groceries after shopping at one of the many grocery stores then located downtown.
In the background is Rehmann’s when they were next to the old bank building which is currently the Mint Restaurant. Rehmann’s expanded into the store front to the north and eventually moved the business one block to the south at its current location.
That Rehmann’s building is now occupied by Clinton Electronics, or as it’s commonly known as, Radio Shack.
