A Look Back

Circa 1930s Postcard
by Barry Bauer

This circa 1930s postcard shows the north side of E. Walker St. At 115 on the left was Murray’s Goods followed by the U. S. Post office. Next to that, the St. Johns Fire hall with the City offices located upstairs. In this picture the Hall had two arched doors which were later replaced by one. On the end there was the St. Johns Dairy Store and also housed the American Legion Post.

This is the same scene today but things have changed a bit. 115 E. Walker St. appears to be vacant. The old post office is now the Mid Michigan Credit Bureau. The old Fire Hall is now Sirens and on the end is formerly the Municipal Building which replaced the building in the postcard picture.
