A Look Back

Nurses Residence
by Barry Bauer

In 1939 Clinton Memorial Hospital decided they needed more room in the hospital for patients so the decision was made to build a separate building to house the nurses. It was a common thing back then to have the nurses live in the hospital.
Completed at the end of the year at a cost of $32,000 which included the furnishings, the new residence officially opened on January 1, 1940 and was capable of housing as many as 26 nurses.
Because of the expansion of Clinton Memorial Hospital the building was torn down September 18, 1997.
