A Look Back

Football Game Circa 1937
by Barry Bauer

There’s only visual information for this photo but it’s interesting to take a look at football in earlier times.
The players in this game wore leather helmets and barely visible shoulder pads. These guys would get lost in today’s uniforms. Obviously, this is before referees started wearing striped shirts.
In the early 1950s Bath High School bought new uniforms for the football team along with new plastic helmets. The school gave away the old uniforms to any of the school kids who wanted one, at least until they were all gone. Some were lucky to get what few older plastic helmets they had but most of us ended up a leather one.
