A Look Back

New Car Debut
by Barry Bauer

This scene is similar to those that took place in downtown Lansing only the new model year 1964 Oldsmobiles were parked on the sidewalks and not in the street.
What’s interesting here were the store fronts in the old Steel Hotel. They started out with the Hotel barbershop and coffee shop sign following by the news stand. Betty’s Dad used to buy childrens 45 records for them on Sunday after church.
Next to that was another unidentified barber shop followed by the Volunteers of America shop, an antique store and Love’s Uphostery Shop.
H&H Lounge, today’s Alibi Bar, was the first building to the north of Steel Hotel to survive the 1975 fire.
