Reed Hall

Reed Hall was born on May 7, 1890 in Amsden, Oh., to Grant and Martha Hall. His family moved to St. Johns when he was seven years old. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the motor transport command during World War I and saw service in France.
Hall joined the St. Johns Police Department in 1931 and was well liked as an officer, especially by the kids. He became the police chief of St. Johns in 1942. Hall passed away June 27, 1949 and was succeeded as police chief by Everett Glazier.
He was survived by his second wife, Katherine, his father, Grant, of St. Johns; brothers William and Stephen of St. Johns, and Edward of Wapakonita, Oh. Sisters Mrs. Harry Heathman, Mrs. Frank Estes, and Mrs. Asa Gillson of St. Johns, and Mrs. Martin Sproat, of Chicago, Il.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl.
It was mentioned that the kids of St. Johns raised money for a memorial to Hall, and perhaps this latter day addition to his tombstone was that tribute.
