A Look Back

1937 Bath Centennial
by Barry Bauer

Bath celebrated its Centennial during the weekend of August 6-8, 1937. The crowd in the photo was listening to a group of entertainers on the porch of this building located in Bath Village.
Bath was the site of the famous 1927 school disaster when a disgruntled farmer and member of the board of education, Andrew Kehoe, blew up the school building.

In 1975 this rebuilt school, which included the portion of building still standing after the bombing, was demolished and a new high school was built east of town. The cupola in this photo sits as a memorial to that tragedy.
