A very active community literacy organization called Bikers for Books (www.facebook.com/BikersForBooks) is hosting ” The Run,” an annual event to promote literacy and positive family involvement in the St. Johns area. The exciting news, the proceeds this year benefit our very own St. Johns Middle School.
The Run raises funds for our local schools to help with literacy projects and needs within the schools. They have already provided books, seminars, and literacy activities at Oakview, Gateway, Riley, and the Briggs Library. Bikers for Books is currently planning a Pizza Party with Riley to celebrate summer reading achievements.
The Run has two elements:
(1) The ride from Capitol Harley-Davidson (Lansing) to St. Johns High School.
(2) The after-party in the parking lot of St. Johns High School at approximately 1:00 pm when the bikers arrive. They will park in the HS lot. The Middle School north lot will be filled with family-friendly activities including
– Games with lots of prizes
– Bounce house
– Hula hooping lessons and demonstrations
– Face painting
– Silent auction
– Child Author and cancer survivor Olivia Whitman
– Local Businesses (Hammer in Hand, US-27 Motorsports)
– Food
– SJMS Community Group
– Delicious themed cakes for all to enjoy
Interested in the After Party at SJHS? Simply Show Up! Community involvement is encouraged as well since our community’s kids reap the benefits.
Last year 174 bikes participated in The Run, raising over $3000 for local Mid Michigan Schools. This year they anticipate even more. The goal this year is to fund literacy projects for the St Johns Middle School and other local schools as well.
