iPad Class and more
Are you thinking of buying an iPad? Or do you have an iPad and don’t know how to use it? Sign up for our NEW iPad class at the Library. We’ll cover all the basics…set up, browsing the Web, e-mail, photos, games and some of the more common apps. Registration begins on Friday, September 27 and classes are Tuesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. or Friday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. You must have a valid Briggs Library card to register.

SJ Seekers

The Seekers are coming to Briggs Library! They are a paranormal investigation team based right here in St. Johns, and will be sharing photos, audio and video clips of their past investigations, and will even allow patrons a chance to use their investigative equipment first hand. This free program takes place on Tuesday, October 15 at 6:30. Registration opens Tuesday, September 24.
Adult Book Clubs
Join the library’s adult book clubs in October when they will be reading “Blue Asylum” by Kathy Hepinstall. During the chaos of the Civil War, Iris Dunleavy is put on trial by her husband, convicted of madness, and sent to an asylum to be restored to a compliant Virginia plantation wife. In the asylum she meets a wonderful collection of inmates, including Ambrose Weller, a Confederate soldier haunted by war. The struggles of these characters are set against the rigidity of a traditional Southern society and the brutality of war in an absorbing story that explores both the rewards and perils of love, pride, and sanity itself. There are two options available for those who would like to join a book club; both will meet on Thursday, October 17. The first session will meet at 12p.m. at the library, and participants are welcome to bring a light lunch if they would like. Our traditional meeting at Bruno’s Bar will be held at 7:30p.m., and participants should be over the age of 21.
Jr. Readers Book Club
Kids ages 7-9: Join in the fun for our next Junior Readers Book Club! We will meet on Monday, October 21 from 6:30-8 and will be discussing the book, “Sea Monsters Don’t Ride Motorcycles” by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thorton Jones. Copies of the book will be available at the Library when registering. We’ll have a game and snack and special guests “Bikers for Books” will be joining us to read to the kids and talk about their love of reading and motorcycles! Registration is required and begins on Monday, September 23.
LEGO Block Party
Briggs Library is hosting its first LEGO Block Party! The fun takes place Saturday, October 26 from 10a.m. – 12p.m. and is open to children in grades K-5. We will meet at the train depot across the street from the library, and there will be plenty of LEGOs available, so come ready to build. Registration is required and begins Friday, October 4.
Fall Fundraiser
Attention all scrap-bookers and crafters! The library will have numerous items for sale including, stamps, ink, pens, embossing plates, paper and more starting Monday, September 9th. Each item will cost 25 cents. Monies earned at this fundraiser will go towards youth programs. The fundraiser will last until the stock of items are gone or the end of September, whichever happens first. So bring your creative selves and your $ to help us out. It’s a win/win situation!
