Chapter Chatter and more
Fall into fun with chapter books at the Library this November. Independent listeners ages 6, 7 and 8 will enjoy stories, games, crafts, snacks and more as part of this four week program offered on Monday evenings November 1-22 from 7:00-7:30 pm. The program is free but registration is required. Please call the Library at (989)224-4702 or stop by the circulation desk to sign up.
Additions to Library Website
The Library recently added the database AtoZtheUSA to its website. This resource provides information on all 50 states, 5 territories and the United States as a whole. It includes maps, flags, photos, and data and statistics on topics like education, crime, climate and weather, history and symbols to name a few. The site also helps individuals cite the documents it contains correctly. Directions on how to login to the site and a link are provided on the Youth Services and Children’s Services pages of the Library’s website. This database is an excellent resource for a variety of reports and projects. A number of students have come into the Library asking about reading books with a particular Lexile number. Some teachers are requiring students read books for their class within a range of Lexile numbers usually based on an individuals reading ability. The Library has added a link on the Youth Services page to the Lexile website. The site will let one search by Lexile number or range of numbers for titles of interest. One can also search by author and title for which the Lexile number for that book is then given. Both of these sites are accessible from anywhere internet access is available as well as at the Library.
Food Drive
The Library is doing our annual food drive during October this year. Please help the Library fill our lobby display case with “non-perishable” food items. The items will then be delivered to the local food bank. Bring your donations to the circulation desk and we will place them in the case. What a great way to show we care for our friends and neighbors in need. *Note that cans and boxes are preferred over glass containers and food expiration dates will be observed.
Book Launch Party
You’re invited to St. Johns native Janet (Kloeckner) Halfmann’s double book launch party for the titles Fur and Feathers and Good Night, Little Sea Otter. This celebration for all ages will include activities, prizes, food, interactive story times, book selling and signing. Join Janet at Briggs Public Library on October 26th between 6:30 and 8:00 pm. For more information, go to janethalfmann.com.
